Brandon Aiyuk appears to troll Kyle Shanahan over car crash as Commanders GM sends indirect warning

Brandon Aiyuk appeared to fire shots at San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan over his recent car accident.

Shanahan was left with ‘significant injuries’ as a result of the incident, and suffered a severe concussion, as well as a broken nose, hand and ribs.

The news first broke over the weekend, and in the days since, a report citing public records had claimed the accident was deemed to be the other driver’s fault.

On Tuesday, Shanahan gathered reporters in his office to clarify that he was actually the one at fault for the wreck.

He revealed that he ‘took eyes off the road briefly’ to find his phone, which had fallen between seats.

When the NFL head coach looked up, he had crossed the center line of the road and collided with the other car.

Shanahan also noted that the California Highway Patrol report, which placed fault on the other driver, was not accurate. He explained it had a clerical error.

While many around the league have offered their best to the nine-year coach in the wake of his accident, disgruntled wideout Aiyuk isn’t one of them.

The former All Pro, who has been demanding his release for months in a string of head-turning social media posts, took to Instagram once again with messages that appeared to mock Shanahan’s accident.

“You can’t win the race if you crash out,” he posted on his Stories.

“Keep yo head up and stay in yo own lane. You gone win.”

In a later post, Aiyuk claimed the Niners have not paid him in ‘500 days’ and once again complained to the NFL Players Association about his situation.

The 28-year-old has been pushing for a trade to the Washington Commanders for months, and recently bought a $10 million property close to their facility in Virginia.

But his recent social media antics will do more harm than good, and he currently remains a 49er, despite being placed on the seldom-used reserve/left squad list.

Many have suggested that Washington is no longer interested in a trade for the receiver, due to his off-field behavior.

This week, Commanders general manager Adam Peters admitted the team will be ‘looking at everything’ when deciding whether or not to make a signing.

The front office wouldn’t wish to publicly comment on another team’s player, but JP Finlay of NBC 4 Sports managed to ask about Aiyuk without naming him on Tuesday.

During a training camp press conference, he questioned if a potential player’s social media habits ‘factor in’ to any evaluation process.

“That’s a good roundabout question,” Peters said.

“We look at everything. I mean, it’s a great question, but we do look at everything and we want to make sure it’s the right player to be in our locker room and our bloodstream and in our culture and we often look at that stuff.

“I mean, it’s not always the first thing we look at. Obviously, you’re looking at the tape, and you talk to the teams that the players have been on, and how they were in the locker room, the players have played with them, and so on and so forth to make those decisions.

“But, you know, that’s not usually a huge part of it. Usually.”

Head coach Dan Quinn, who was sitting alongside Peters, labelled Finlay a ‘straight bad***’ for the question and added: “Well played. Both of you.”

While the Commanders GM suggested social media isn’t ‘usually’ a major part of evaluations, the team will be well aware of what Aiyuk has been posting.

Only time will tell if his behavior has a real impact on his future in the NFL, and if he’s not suiting up for Washington in 2026, he will surely have some regrets.
