Shakur Stevenson issues scathing first reaction after being stripped of world title: ‘Come at me’
Shakur Stevenson is not at all impressed with the WBC after being stripped of his WBC lightweight title.
The pound-for-pound talent reigned as 135lbs champion with the governing body, but moved up to 140lbs to challenge Teofimo Lopez in a huge mega-fight to challenge for his WBO title.

Stevenson put on a glorious punch-perfect display to dominate Lopez and snatch a world title belt in a fourth weight class.
As a result, he also became a two-weight simultaneous champion, a fairly rare feat in the sport.
But his joy was short lived, as the WBC announced that they would be making Stevenson’s lightweight crown vacant.
The 28-year-old has now hit out at the governing body on social media, alleging it was based on a kissed $100,000 fee.
He tweeted: “$100k to some crooks who don’t deserve it?.
“The WBC didn’t even have s**t to do with this fight, and it’s eating them alive. Take your belt, it don’t make me.
“What the hell am I giving you all $100k right now for? Because y’all got beef with Bud [Terence Crawford]? So come at me for it.”
His reference to friend Crawford came, after the former undisputed super-middleweight champion was stripped of his title after failing to pay his own sanctioning fees.
Crawford furiously hit out at the governing body in a social media rant, before retiring from the sport and vacating his other titles.
Stevenson’s reign as WBC champion and what they have said
The skillful trickster first picked up the lightweight belt in November 2023 after victory over Edwin De Los Santos.

He then made three electric defences of his title before moving up to a new division in pursuit of more gold.
A perhaps career-best victory has sent his reputation into the stratosphere, so was a major boost for his career.
He had suggested he was open to then moving back to 135lbs to take further big fights moving forward.
But that now has taken a big blow, and the WBC suggested it was simply due to their rules.
A statement read: “In light of Stevenson now being the reigning WBO Super Lightweight World Champion, and consistent with the WBC Rules & Regulations, the WBC has declared its Lightweight World title as vacant.
“The WBC wishes Stevenson continued success in all his future endeavors, both inside and outside the ring.
“The WBC will provide further information regarding the process to crown a new Lightweight World Champion in the near future.”
