Shakur Stevenson and Conor Benn trade words in fiery clash in ring as new champion makes fight offer

Shakur Stevenson and Conor Benn clashed in the ring after the former’s sensational win over Teofimo Lopez.

Stevenson became a four-weight world champion when he lit up New York’s Madison Square Garden with an elite victory over previous champion Lopez.

Challengers are running out for Stevenson who has dismantled every opposition in his wake while conquering four weight classes in the process.

But having put on yet another boxing clinic, the American superstar turned his eyes towards British fighter Benn, who sat ringside.

He shouted during his post-fight interview: “Where is Conor Benn? I want him.

“My skills are too much. Sign the contract. Let’s make it happen. He’s food.”

Benn climbs into the ring and confronts Stevenson

‘The Destroyer’ upon hearing his name was quick to clamber into the ring.

Stevenson made an intriguing offer, insisting he would be open to moving up in weight to 147lbs to challenge the Briton, with any rehydration clause permitted.

As the pair then faced off, things became fiery as Benn wasn’t entirely thrilled with Stevenson’s claims that it would be another easy night’s work.

He first entered the ring by claiming Stevenson was a ‘small man’, of course given he would hold size advantages if they met.

It then aggravated both as they were held back by officials and team members who were in the ring.

Things descended into a shouting match, as Benn said back: “You can’t punch. You can’t keep me off you. I’ll rough you up.

“It’s your night, but I’m going to whoop your ass next!”

The pair eventually went their separate ways, but both demanded that the fight is made next to Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh.

Could Benn vs Stevenson happen?

The bout could well be realistic if Stevenson is willing to compromise on contractual terms.

In previous exchanges over interviews and on social media, the Newark native had even agreed to fight in the UK against Benn.

As for now ‘The Destroyer’ has got his own world title ambitions, which will likely be prioritised.

Benn is the mandatory challenger to the winner of Ryan Garcia and Mario Barrios’ clash later this month.

If he can pick up a world title at 147lbs, it will make even more sense for Stevenson to climb in weight and make a huge showdown.
