Seattle Seahawks vs New England Patriots odds, predictions, and betting tips – The Super Bowl is Here

To close out the NFL season in the championship game, the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots square off at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Both quarterbacks are relatively healthy heading into this game, so there won’t be a repeat of the AFC Championship with the Denver Broncos starting their backup.

Below, I’ll navigate the championship game in more detail, including a game preview and some prop bets.

Seahawks vs Patriots best bets

The Seahawks enter this game after putting up 31 points in the NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Rams. Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 69.4% of his passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns. Before this performance, he had 198 yards or fewer in three straight games. The Seahawks are second in points (29.2), seventh in total yards (350.0), and seventh in yards allowed (293.2) per game.

As for the Patriots, they’re allowing just 18 points per game this postseason after scoring just 10 in the AFC Championship. Not only that, but quarterback Drake Maye hasn’t been all too effective this postseason, completing 59.3% of his passes or fewer in each game, and has four touchdowns and two interceptions. Over the course of this season, though, the Patriots are eighth in points (27.2), sixth in yards (364.2), and second in yards allowed (282.4) per game.

Seahawks vs Patriots preview

In this game, there are two things I’ve heavily considered that have led me to my decision.

First, the Patriots’ defense has been excellent this postseason, racking up 69 pressures, and they’ve allowed running backs 55 rushing yards or fewer in each of their last four games.

Against pressure this season, including the playoffs, Darnold has completed just 51.5% of his passes and has eight interceptions and 10 turnover-worthy plays.

So, the Patriots’ defense will be able to generate pressure and stop the run, and they have a cornerback, Christian Gonzalez, who should do fairly well against Smith-Njigba.

Finally, in a game like this, where I think it’ll be low-scoring, a deep pass to get into the red zone or score a touchdown could be the difference, and one pass 20-plus yards downfield, Maye has just one turnover-worthy play all season.

I predict the Patriots cover the spread at +4.5.

SpreadOdds
Seattle Seahawks -4.5 -112
New England Patriots +4.5-108
Total PointsOdds
Over 45.5-108
Under 45.5-112

While I disagree with the spread, I understand the recency bias. The Seahawks offense is dominant and put up 31 points, while the Patriots haven’t been scoring and put up just 10 points in the AFC title game.

Hunter Henry anytime TD

The Seahawks have allowed six receptions for 64 yards per game to opposing tight ends, which are sixth and fifth-most, respectively. They’ve only allowed six touchdowns, but Henry should see an uptick in targets.

The Seahawks primarily play Cover-3 and Cover-6, and against those coverages this season, Henry leads all Patriots receivers in target share at 21%.

Bet Hunter Henry to have a touchdown against the Seahawks at +230 with BetMGM

Austin Hooper under 9.5 receiving yards

While the Seahawks struggle against tight ends, the Patriots don’t use Hooper much at all. In fact, this season his target share is just 5.4%, with 21 catches for 263 yards.

He’s finished with nine receiving yards or fewer in eight games, including in three of his last four.

This postseason, he’s caught just one pass across three games for 14 yards.

I’ll take the under; he’s not targeted enough.

Back Austin Hooper to have 9 receiving yards or more against the Seahawks at -110 with FanDuel

Jaxon Smith-Njigba 7+ receptions

Smith-Njigba has been peppered with targets this season. He leads all Seahawks receivers with a 35.4% target share, including the playoffs. He’s caught 132 passes for 179 yards for 1,965 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He’s caught seven passes or more in 13 of 19 games this season.

The Patriots’ defense has been stiff against wide receivers, allowing just 10 receptions for over 116 receiving yards per game. Still, Smith-Njigba is so heavily involved, and they’ll need to lean on him to move the ball, as the Patriots have been stifling the run with Milton Williams in the lineup.

Bet Jaxon Smith-Njigba to have 7 receptions or more against the Patriots at -148 with Caesars
