Scotland vs Brazil prediction
It’s crunch time for Scotland as they aim to qualify for the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time in their history.
Scotland also do not need to win here: a 1-0 defeat could easily take them through as a best third-placed side.
But that’s a dangerous game to play with the small matter of the five time winners Brazil in their way of making it.
Brazil themselves will be aiming for top spot. And having drawn with Morocco before beating Haiti, a high-scoring win will be needed to ensure they advance in first place.
Neymar has been confirmed as available for this game by Ancelotti after missing the first two, but the Italian will be more concerned by the hamstring injury picked up by Barcelona forward Raphinha, with reports suggesting he’ll miss a couple of matches.
Reasons for Scottish optimism? Brazil’s last three defeats in the group stage at a World Cup have all been suffered on matchday three, including a surprise 1-0 loss against Cameroon in Qatar.
As a result, the Selecao cannot afford to take anything for granted when they face a fired-up Scotland outfit on Wednesday.
Scotland vs Brazil betting tips
Brazil on the handicap
Five of Brazil’s last six victories have been achieved by at least a two-goal margin, so back Brazil -1.5 on the handicaps could be the value play.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have an array of attacking talent who can produce a moment of magic in an instant. If they score early, it could open the floodgates.
Cunha to score again!
Manchester Utd forward Matheus Cunha has bagged two goals already in the competition.
With no Raphinha until the knockout rounds and Neymar still nursing injury, the 27-year-old’s importance will only heighten.
Cunha has the chops to score the spectacular or the poacher-type. Much like his first goal against Haiti.
We’re backing him to score again and his ‘silver surfer’ celebration to come out again.
McTominay on target
Scott McTominay hit the woodwork in the victory against Haiti, but was largely stifled against Morocco until two shots were blocked as the Scots looked for a late equaliser.
But he’ll be at the forefront of Scotland’s ascent on the Brazil goal. With the mission clear. Get a point and their qualification will all but be assured.
