Sandown Coral-Eclipse Day (Saturday 4th July 2026)

Sandown Coral-Eclipse Day (Saturday 4th July 2026)

Time for the big one now the Coral-Eclipse! I’ve had a good record in this down the years with one of my favourite winners Nathaniel back in 2012 where he lowered the colours of Farhh who was all the rage on the day. It looks another exciting renewal this time around with Constitution River and Gethin locking horns.

It is a card packed full of quality with the Group 3 Coral Charge kicking things off plus we have the Listed Coral Distaff and some tasty handicaps to get stuck into. Roll on the winners!

Sandown 1.50 Coral Charge (Group 3) (The Sprint Stakes) 5f

Rumstar took this 12 months ago and will have his supporters again but he was bitterly disappointing at Royal Ascot and does have a bit to prove off the back of that.

I prefer WORDS OF TRUTH who arrives with confidence high after winning the Scurry Stakes over C&D last month. Appleby seems to be back in form now and this 3yo could have quite a bit more to come now despite tackling a better calibre of horse.

Aussie mare Asfoora was only beaten two lengths at Royal Ascot and has a lively shout in this but there is little juice in her price here as the 2/1 favourite.

At a big price Leovanni should appreciate the drop back in trip here and if bouncing back could be value to hit the frame as she is around a 50/1 shot at the time of writing.

Sandown 2.25 Coral Challenge (Handicap) (Class 2) 1m

Indalo and Tribal Chief top the market but both have had chances of late and I think there is better value elsewhere.

BEAGLE BAY has won his last two and three of his last four now and remains unexposed over a mile. He impressed beating Raammee over C&D last month and despite a 5lb rise I don’t think he should be as big as 7/1 in the betting. He has plenty of scope so there could be more in the locker yet and we know this track suits.

Cerulean Bay has run three big races in defeat this season and it really wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go close again despite probably coming up against a few improvers.

Classic was behind the latter in the Royal Hunt Cup but also looks a player here at a double-figure price.

Sandown 3.00 Coral Distaff (Fillies’ Listed) 1m

I’ve got to be honest this race scrambled my mind somewhat. I kept going round in circles but each time I did come back to PACIFIC MISSION so hopefully she can run well.

She was actually behind Act Of Kindness at York so does need to reverse that form but I don’t think we’ve seen the best of her yet this season. Her 2yo form was decent and she strikes me as the type who can improve again. The yard took this 12 months ago with a similar type in Blue Bolt and she gets my vote.

Act Of Kindness looks sure to run well again and she could have further improvement to come as well. Sacred Ground is another one with ability but she probably needs everything to drop right to win this.

Secret Of Life is unbeaten but this is a tough enough test so early on in her career as she has only had two starts and is significantly up in class now.

Sandown 3.35 Coral-Eclipse (Group 1) 1m2f

I’d go as far to say the Coral-Eclipse is one of my favourite races of the season!

It looks a pretty solid renewal and I’m backing CONSTITUTION RIVER to make it four in a row for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.

This colt is going from strength to strength having made it four wins straight to get up late in the French Derby when last seen. He ran down stablemate Hawk Mountain on that occasion and with this faster ground no problem I fancy him strongly to confirm that form. His form stacks up and I really don’t see too many weaknesses.

Wathnan have snapped up Gethin and he does look the obvious danger. He got within a neck of beating Ombudsman but I do think he is a little flattered on that form.

The latter looked like he needed the run so I wouldn’t take it literally. Even so he still looks the threat to the favourite and it should be a good race between the pair.

Hawk Mountain and Saddadd add further spice and I can’t wait for the race.

I have been with KING’S CAVALRY the last twice and I’m not about to abandon him now.

He bumped into a nice horse on reappearance and then went one better impressively at Leicester back in May. He showed a good attitude to get the verdict on the nod at Doncaster on handicap debut and just 3lb higher here can improve again and land the hat-trick.

Spirit Of Saxony looked good winning at Kempton on penultimate start and the runner-up Manly Fireball has won easily at Wolverhampton since.

He then bumped into a nice horse in Sticktoyourguns over C&D last month and that form has already been boosted with the fifth Utmost Good Faith winning so he is definitely the danger.

Sandown 4.47 Coral Free Rewards Shaker Handicap (Class 4) 1m2f

There are plenty in with a chance here so a tentative vote goes to TAMBORA for Richard Hannon. This colt by Pinatubo was well backed over track and trip last month and was beaten less than two lengths into fourth. He is unexposed having just his fifth career start and if improving again could have a great chance in this under Pat Dobbs.

Bridge Of Eagles has proved a bit frustrating not kicking on from that Goodwood win on reappearance. He ran well at this track last month though and if getting back to his best could be a player.

Barbury Boy is a bit awkward but has won two of his last three now so you couldn’t rule out another big run here in a race that I can see working out well in time so Notebooks very much at the ready.

Sandown 5.22 Coral Celebrating 100 Years Handicap (Class 2) 1m2f

It just shows you the difference between jockeys as POINT OF CONTACT was given a peach at York last time and duly delivered the goods. Ryan Moore rides again and up just a small rise with more to come over a mile and a quarter he looks well placed to follow up.

Spoken Truth is next in the betting and does look the danger for O’Meara. He was a good second to Bella’s Path at Nottingham and that rival has run well since so the form has substance. He does struggle to win but should get seriously competitive again.

Stem has been a little frustrating but was only beaten a length at Newmarket and could be another one that gets involved in the lucky last.

My top tip for Sandown Coral-Eclipse Day Saturday

I can’t wait for the Coral-Eclipse and hopefully CONSTITUTION RIVER can make it four in a row for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore and back up his French Derby win.

I have doubled him up with KING’S CAVALRY who looks a progressive handicapper and a horse to keep firmly on side for now.

🏇 Bet a Win Double on CONSTITUTION RIVER and KING’S CAVALRY at 9/2 with bet365 🏇
