Rob Dillingham undergoes surgery that will hopefully fix his jump shot
Back in March, the Chicago Bulls learned that Rob Dillingham had suffered a mysterious wrist injury. As a result, he saw his minutes decrease just as he was adjusting to a new dynamic with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On Thursday, it was announced that Dillingham had successfully undergone a minor operation to have a ganglion cyst removed from his right wrist, per SleeperBulls.
Altogether, Dillingahm finished the season averaging 9.6 points per game with the Bulls. In February, Dillingham was traded to Chicago via Minnesota for Ayo Dosunmu. Before then, he averaged only 3.5 points per game as well as 9.3 minutes.
Meanwhile, Dillingham saw an increase in minutes played per game at 21.5. Ultimately, the Bulls finished the season at 31-51 and once again missed the playoffs. Afterward, the Bulls saw the firings of VP Arturas Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley. Then, head coach Billy Donovan stepped down.
During the off-season, Chicago will take a thorough look at its talent assets. That would include whether to keep players such as Dillingham, who remains on a two-year contract. Overall, Dillingham was able to play much more than he did in Minnesota.
Along the way, he had his moments, including a career high of 26 points on April 7 against the Washington Wizards. In the same breath, Dillingham endured periods of inconsistency.
Nevertheless, his rookie deal gives him the freedom to showcase his worth for an extended period of time. As a result, the Bulls can keep him on without breaking the bank.
If anything, his surgery is a means of preparing him to stay long-term.
