Richard Hammond’s daughter Izzy in ‘scary’ Formula E crash as health update is issued
Richard Hammond’s daughter, Izzy, was involved in a terrifying crash in Formula E in Jeddah on Sunday.
The 25-year-old is a journalist and YouTuber and was taking part in a special Formula E Evo Session in Saudi Arabia.

These events are described as gatherings of the world’s best ‘influential digital content creators and global personalities get behind the wheel of the GEN3 Evo.’
The idea is for them to generate interest in Formula E, and Izzy followed in her father’s footsteps by getting behind the wheel.
Richard is best known for being part of hit BBC TV show Top Gear alongside co-presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May.
When Clarkson was sacked by the BBC in ‘unprovoked physical attack’, Hammond and May joined their mate in heading to Amazon, where they hosted The Grand Tour.
And Izzy has now tried her hand at competitive racing, where she was part of Team Senor Frogs alongside influencers such as Ethan Payne [Behzinga] and William Lenney [WillNe].
Things were going well until turn 13, when she was unable to slow down and eventually crashed into a concrete wall.
The impact was severe that one of the wheels came off, and the front wing buckled inwards.
But thankfully, Izzy emerged unscathed and walked away with no reported injuries.
Izzy immediately jumped onto the team radio to convey the fact everything was fine.
She said: “I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine.”

And on Instagram, she said: “Hey guys, I don’t know if you saw, but I crashed the f*** out of the car.
“Massive apologies to my team. How did I do it?
“I don’t think I had enough heat in my tyres.
“So I was trying to break and I was trying to turn with no heated tyres so it all went a little bit t*** up and I hit the wall with 24Gs.
“So, my neck hurts a little bit, but I am absolutely fine so thank you everyone that is concerned.
“This stuff happens, and now I can say I’m a proper racing driver because I’ve had a monumental crash.”

Future of the sport
Hammond wasn’t the only content creator/influencer at this event, with a selection of famous names involved.
Along with Payne and Lenney, Joshua Larkin [TheBurntChip], Arthur Frederick [ArthurTV],, Vikram Singh Barn [Vikkstar], Max Klymenko, Stan Browney, Khaby Lame, JUCA and Emelia Hartford were also all present.
The Evo Sessions are intended to attract a new set of fans to Formula E.
Explaining the idea, Formula E’s CEO Jeff Dodds said: “The Evo Sessions are about bringing motorsport to places where it hasn’t been before.
“With a true competitive format, we are opening up Formula E to hundreds of millions of new fans – authentic, exciting and bold.
“This year, we have really stepped up our efforts to create an experience that will surely thrill the fans. There has never been anything like this in motorsport, and we are proud to be pioneers.”

Close shave
To the relief of everyone, Izzy managed to avoid a crash like any of the major two her father was involved in.
In 2006, Richard was involved in a terrifying car crash testing a dragster that could reach speeds of over 300mph.
The result of that one saw him suffer a serious brain injury that had him in a coma for two weeks before making a full recovery.
And in 2017, while filming The Grand Tour, he was airlifted to hospital following a terrifying crash in Switzerland.
