Red Sox rumors: Multiple Boston pitchers mentioned in trade discussions

The Boston Red Sox appear to be a team that is ready to do business. They did not re-sign 3rd baseman Alexs Bregman and they failed to bring in free agent Bo Bichette. As a result, it seems clear that they need help in the infield. They appear to have potential holes at 2nd and 3rd base, and the team would be stronger if they are able to bring in a solid infielder.

While the time to find that player through free agency may be over, the Red Sox are reportedly in the trade market. They appear to have more than enough strength among their starting pitchers. The Red Sox have Garrett Crochet, Sonny Gray, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, Johan Oviedo and Patrick Sandoval in addition to the recently signed Ranger Suarez. They also have talented youngsters Connelly Early, Payton Tolle and Kyle Harrison and that trio is expected to start the year in Triple A.

The Red Sox appear to be more than willing to use some of those assets — or at least one asset — in order to make a trade. According reports from insiders that have been published in The Athletic, the Red Sox have been “shopping” veteran starting pitcher Brayan Bello and they would be willing to move him for the right price.

In addition to Bello, Sandoval is also appealing in a potential trade. The Red Sox acquired hard-throwing Jordan Hicks when they traded 3rd baseman Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants last year. Hicks struggled with his overall effectiveness once he arrived in Boston, but his velocity and potential makes him an interesting trade candidate as well.
