Real Madrid vs Getafe predictions and betting tips – Los Blancos hot on Barcelona’s heels

Barcelona extended their lead at the top of the La Liga table at the weekend, so Real Madrid must respond when they return to action against Getafe at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Will Madrid take care of business in this must-win match, or might there be a surprise in store in the Spanish capital on Monday night?

Real Madrid vs Getafe predictions

Title races are about nip and tuck and this one is no different.

Barcelona played first on matchday 26 of the La Liga season, and they did not pass up the opportunity to extend their advantage at the summit of the standings.

A hat-trick from Lamine Yamal helped Hansi Flick’s side to a 4-1 victory over Villarreal on Saturday, a result which increased their lead in top spot to four points.

Real Madrid are under pressure to respond in what is a rare Monday night fixture for one of Spain’s big two.

A win here would move them back within a point of Barcelona. That sort of deficit is eminently surmountable. A four-point gap, on the other hand, would give the defending champions a huge advantage.

Madrid’s record under Alvaro Arbeloa is excellent, at least in the league. Sure, the Blancos recently suffered a surprise loss to Osasuna, going down 2-1 in Pamplona.

Yet before that, Madrid had won eight games on the spin in La Liga, five of which came with Arbeloa calling the shots.

“Yesterday (prior to the Osasuna defeat), I said that the season had practically just started. Even if it sounds exaggerated, I still think there’s a long way to go,” the manager said recently.

“A team shows its strength when difficulties arise. Doubts must not appear. I still strongly believe in my players and in the work that they’re doing.

“What we’re lacking is maintaining that level of demand over time, and that’s what we need to keep working on. We’ll try to get the best out of every player because we need them all.”

There is a tendency to look at the Clasico scheduled for the weekend of May 10 as a title decider, but that is not necessarily the day on which the prize will be won and lost.

The destination of the trophy could instead be determined by which of the two contenders is more reliable in the games you would expect them to win, such as a home clash with Getafe.

Madrid have minimal margin for error given Barcelona’s lead, so this is a must-win match for Arbeloa and co.cation would be an excellent achievement in David Moyes’ first full campaign back on Merseyside.

Real Madrid vs Getafe betting tips

Getafe make the short trip to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to face Real Madrid on Monday.

Madrid to take points

Real Madrid are strong favourites to triumph in La Liga’s next game, but that does not mean they will be in for an entirely straightforward 90 minutes.

Getafe are a difficult team to play against. They are not yet safe from relegation, so there is no danger of them taking things easy.

Jose Bordelas’s outfit are physical and well organised, and it can be tough for even strong sides like Madrid to break them down.

However, Getafe struggle for goals and Madrid will back themselves to keep a clean sheet in front of their own supporters.
It might not be the most free-flowing match, but the Blancos should be able to keep Getafe out on the path to victory.

Getafe a stubborn side

Only Real Oviedo have scored fewer goals than Getafe ahead of this match between two Madrid-based teams.

Their strengths lie at the other end of the field: only the top three and Celta Vigo have conceded fewer goals this term.

The combination of those two facts show that Getafe’s matches are not the most action-packed. In 68 percent of them, there have been two goals or fewer.

With that in mind, the odds on under 2.5 goals in Monday’s encounter look pretty appealing, especially with Kylian Mbappe missing for Madrid.

Vinicius in fine form

At the time of writing, most bookmakers are still offering odds on Mbappe finding the net against Getafe, even though Arbeloa has already confirmed his absence.

As such, Vinicius Junior is currently available at longer odds in the anytime scorer market than you might imagine for Madrid’s likeliest goal-getter.

Vinicius is in fine form. He has scored six goals in his last five appearances in all competitions as Madrid fight for trophies across multiple fronts.

The Brazil international is full of confidence right now and he will be at the heart of most Madrid attacks on Monday evening.

Vinicius can score his 10th goal of the La Liga season in this one.
