Premier League odds changes: Tottenham down to 14/1 from 50/1 for Premier League relegation

The drama of the opening two weekends of the new Premier League season has resulted in several notable odds changes at talkSPORT BET.

talkSPORT BET’s spokesperson Ryon Scott-Douglas had the following to say about the Premier League’s market moves: “Arsenal are pulling away at the top, but the real shockwaves on the trading floor are coming from the bottom half.”

Bettors are keen on Arsenal at 8/11 (down from 13/8), which is causing Manchester City to drift out to 7/2 from 5/2 despite Enzo Maresca’s side collecting six points from six.

The Gunners have begun the defence of their first Premier League title with consecutive victories over Coventry and Aston Villa, achieving both without conceding a goal, leaving them as one of only four teams to have won both of their opening matches.

Interestingly though, despite their drift in price, Manchester City actually sit at the top of the table after the opening fortnight.

Maresca’s side struggled to a 2-1 win over Bournemouth in their opening game of the campaign but were much more convincing in their 4-1 win at Crystal Palace last weekend make it two wins out of two.

Chelsea are quietly gaining backers from their original status as dark horses, trimmed to 11/2 from 10/1, while early stumbles for Manchester United (14/1 from 8/1) and Liverpool (14/1 from 6/1) have seen confidence evaporate rapidly.

Xabi Alonso’s side are another team with a 100% record, their 3-2 win at Fulham and 4-3 win against Brighton, meaning the Blues are the highest scorers in the league, while only two teams have conceded more.

All of the above makes Chelsea the most entertaining team to watch for the neutral, particularly their blockbuster front three of Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro, all of which have hit the ground running in the new campaign.

Manchester United and Liverpool have both dropped points at early points in the season where they perhaps weren’t expected to.

The Red Devils recovered from their shock 2-0 defeat at Hull on the opening day by putting five past Ipswich in their home opener on Sunday afternoon, while Andoni Iraola’s new side have only managed back to back 2-2 draws away at Newcastle and at home against Nottingham Forest to start the season.

Scott-Douglas continued: “Where we’re seeing unmatched volatility is in the relegation market. Tottenham Hotspur crashing into 14/1 to go down is the headline grabber – they opened at 40/1 and drifted out to 50/1 after their transfer window, but heavy pressure from the market has seen those odds slashed.

Spurs sit joint bottom of the Premier League table at the time of writing following a 3-0 loss to Brentford on the opening day, which was followed by a 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle on Saturday.

They now share that 14/1 mark with Aston Villa, whose initial 66/1 price has completely collapsed after a 4-0 loss to Brighton and 1-0 defeat against Arsenal to start the season.

“Elsewhere in the scrap at the bottom, Fulham (11/4 from 6/1) and Crystal Palace (10/3 from 6/1), (who are both without a point from their opening fixtures), are attracting significant concern from traders. Newcastle United were the only side to buy themselves breathing room over the weekend—their crucial victory at Spurs pushing them back out to 12/1 from 6/1 as the pressure mounts elsewhere.”
