Premier League betting: Gunners most backed team for title with bet365

Arsenal are the most backed team to win the upcoming Premier League title with bet365.

The reigning Premier League champions have been backed by 34% of the 50,000 wagers that have been placed on bet365’s Premier League outright winner market so far.

Premier League Relegation Outrights

In the battle to avoid relegation, Hull, priced as short as 1/4, have been backed by 28% of punters to make an instant return to the Championship after their shock promotion via the playoffs at the end of last season.

The Tigers had been expected to be in the relegation battle in the second tier last season but Sergej Jakirovic worked wonders in his first season in charge to deliver the Yorkshire side Premier League football.

16% of outright relegation bets have been placed on Ipswich to get relegated from this season following their promotion back in May, priced odds on at 4/6 after Kieran McKenna’s surprise departure in the off season.

Two teams who competed in the Champions League last season, Newcastle and Manchester City, are the third and fourth most backed teams to go down with 13% at 20/1 and 11% at 12/1 respectively, with the Magpies selling many of their star players this summer and City’s future regarding the 115 charges still very much up in the air.

Premier League Top 4 Outrights

In the top four finishers outrights, Chelsea are the most backed team with 20% of the slips, priced at 10/11 following a 10th place finish last season, the arrival of Bundesliga winning manager Xabi Alonso has sparked huge optimism into the west London club.

The absence of European football in their season was initially seen as a detriment but the overriding feeling is now one that it means full focus can be put on the Premier League season, playing just one game a week while most of their rivals will be playing two could probe a real boost.

Premier League Top Goalscorer Outrights

62% of Golden Boot bets being placed on Manchester City’s Erling Haaland makes it by far the most backed bet in a market, the Norwegian striker, who has won three Golden Boots in his four Premier League campaigns, is priced at 4/6 to achieve the feat again.

Alexander Isak is the next most backed with 6% of punts to cause win his first Golden Boot as he bids to find consistency this term following an injury ravaged season last time out following his £125m from Newcastle last summer.

Premier League Handicap Market

bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “Forget world-class players, wage bills and profit and sustainability, history has shown us that any of the 20 clubs can win the Premier League handicap, which is why it’s so popular.

“Sunderland were the latest side to win with a significant head start following in the footsteps of Nottingham Forest +47, Aston Villa +32, Brentford +46, West Ham +44 and Sheffield United +52 over the last seven years with Liverpool +7 sandwiched in between them in 2022 and Manchester City being the last side to win off scratch in 2018.

“Furthermore, three of the top four teams in the table last season were given starts of 38 or more (Brentford +38, Leeds +43) while Manchester United were given +21.

“Arsenal start on zero this season with Manchester City and Liverpool given starts of +3 and +7 respectively.

“Last season’s big underachievers were actually Wolverhampton Wanderers who, despite being given 39 points, still finished bottom, one point behind Arne Slot’s Liverpool.”

How It Works

At the end of the campaign, each team’s handicap is added to their actual points total, and whoever finishes with the most points wins.
