Portsmouth v Derby prediction

Portsmouth have been well and truly dragged back into the relegation battle in the Championship after surprise wins for both Blackburn and West Brom on Saturday against teams battling for automatic promotion.

The weekend’s results leaves John Mousinho’s side hovering just one point above the relegation zone, albeit having played two games fewer than the teams around them.

Pompey have slipped down to 20th in the second tier table ahead of tonight’s fixture, in which will they’ll be looking for a positive result after picking up just one point from their last four matches, in a bid to pull themselves away from a relegation scrap.

Only two teams have picked up fewer points from their home matches than the south coast side this season, who have lost each of their last three games at Fratton Park.

Derby, despite sitting eighth in the table ahead of tonight’s fixture, make the trip to Hampshire priced as underdogs for victory.

John Eustace’s side have won two of their last three matches and know that victory tonight will take them to within three points of the play off places.

Only four teams have picked up more points on the road this season in the Championship than the Rams, though the east Midlands side will be looking to end a run of three consecutive defeats on the road on the south coast tonight.

Six of the last seven matches between Portsmouth and Derby have ended in stalemates, with tonight’s hosts not having beaten the Rams in a league match since they were both last in the Premier League together in the 2007-08 season.

Portsmouth v Derby betting tips

Stalemate streak to continue

Seven of the last eight matches between tonight’s two teams have ended in a draw, and recent results suggest that trend may continue tonight.

Portsmouth have lost their last three matches at home, while Derby have also failed to pick up a point from their last three away games, which may well lead to quite a cagey affair tonight.

Agyemang the man

No player on either team has scored more goals this season than Derby striker Patrick Agyemang, who reached double figures for the campaign last month, and 70% of his goals for the Rams this season have been scored away from home.

Travis in trouble

Derby midfielder Lewis Travis has picked up more yellow cards this season than any other player expected to start tonight’s match, having tallied up nine for the campaign, including five in his last nine outings.
