Pirates’ Paul Skenes follows through on birthday promise to 20-year-old Konnor Griffin
The Pittsburgh Pirates are the type of team that’s going to celebrate when the occasion calls for it, and Paul Skenes recently went all out for one of his teammates. With Konnor Griffin turning 20 years old, there were some ideas on what the clubhouse would do for him, and nobody forgot what Skenes suggested.
“A bouncy house would’ve been a little tough in the clubhouse,” Skenes said.
Never say never, because when Griffin walked into the room, what was sitting in the middle was a small bouncy house just for him. At first glance, he was quite shocked, but he warmed up to the idea eventually and decided to bring back some childhood memories.
The only thing was that instead of jumping in the bouncy house, Griffin decided to just lie down.

To add more to the party, there was an Elmo-themed kids’ table in the distance with two chairs, just in case Griffin felt like sharing a piece of cake with a teammate.

It was a great birthday for Griffin, as he was able to get his first career home run on that day. Skenes even joked with him after the fact, and knows that it’s just the beginning for him and what he’ll be able to accomplish in the league.
“He couldn’t do it when he was a teenager, I guess. Wanted to wait until he turned 20… The league better be on notice, cause he’s coming,” Skenes said via the Bucco Territory podcast.
It will be interesting to see what more Skenes has up his sleeve for the remainder of the season for Griffin.
