Van Steenis has told talkSPORT.com that nothing is bigger than headlining the card in his home country and believes he outweighs Edwards in all departments.

Edwards, meanwhile, has predicted a statement knockout when he enters enemy territory for PFL Madrid and says he’s a completely ‘different fighter’ compared to his split decision defeat to van Steenis six years ago.

Former BKFC star Franco Tenaglia also makes his PFL debut in Madrid, while Briton Linton Vassell and Australian Jacinta Austin both feature on the main card.

In addition, it is expected footballers from the city’s two major clubs, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid may be in attendance, ahead of their derby on Sunday.

PFL Madrid: What has been said?

Van Steenis described the feeling of headlining PFL Madrid as a proud Spaniard when speaking to talkSPORT.com.

“My mission was winning the PFL title,” the 33-year-old explained.

“I made my dream come true, but then hearing that I’m taking the organisation to Spain, I don’t know what’s bigger.

“I think it’s just as big or even bigger, taking one of the biggest promotions in the world to my home country, Spain.

“That’s just crazy. I would say it’s a dream come true, but I didn’t even dream, I didn’t even think that was possible, until it happened.”

Edwards, 32, explained to talkSPORT.com why van Steenis could be in for ‘a rude awakening’ in Madrid on Friday.

“It’s a perfect way to go to Spain and announce yourself,” he said.

“You’ve got two explosive fighters in the main event, someone’s going to get knocked out, and it ain’t going to be me.

“My skills have changed [since the first fight against van Steenis], but the main thing has been my mindset and approach to this game…

“At that time, I’d never taken a loss before; that fight was too safe, and this one, forget safety, I’m getting in the car with no seatbelt.

“I’m a different fighter now. If he thinks it’s going to be the same, he’s in for a rude awakening.

“I’m going in there to get in his face straight away and have a fight… To beat him is not enough for me, I need to go in there and make a statement.”

Tenaglia, who enjoyed championship success at Conor McGregor‘s BKFC, told talkSPORT.com why he wanted to go back to MMA ahead of his inaugural PFL appearance.

“I’ve been training in MMA my whole life for like 15 years,” the Argentinian said.

“I’ve been very successful in bare-knuckle but we all want to do well in all combat sports.

“I want to show everyone that I can beat everyone in all aspects of fighting, so that is why I’ve transitioned into MMA.

“That is why I’ve signed with one of the best promotions in the world.”
