Penguins’ Sidney Crosby suffers injury scare in Flyers Game 5

The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to extend their season a little bit longer. They defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 4 to avoid a first-round sweep. In Game 5, they had the lead, but received a massive scare involving Sidney Crosby.

Crosby and the Penguins were in the offensive zone, looking to pad their lead. Defenseman Ryan Shea took a shot on goal, and the puck hit Pittsburgh’s captain. Crosby was seen hobbling, and he immediately left the ice and went down the tunnel. After a moment, he was able to return to the Penguins bench.

Game 5 between the Flyers and Penguins has been chaotic. The teams traded back-to-back goals, which had the Penguins leading 2-1. After Crosby exited, Philadelphia was able to tie the game thanks to Travis Sanheim. Shortly after that, though, Pittsburgh regained the lead when Kris Letang’s shot took a bounce off the glass and into the net.

Crosby did take the ice after Philadelphia tied the game. In fact, he made an impact after coming back. He recorded an assist on the Letang goal that restored Pittsburgh’s lead.

It’s hard to overstate just how much Crosby means to the Penguins. He has been the team’s captain since the 2007-08 season. In 2009, he led the team to its first Stanley Cup since 1991. He went on to win two more Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. At the time, Crosby became the first captain since Steve Yzerman to lead a team to consecutive Cups.

Everyone in Pittsburgh certainly held their breath when Crosby immediately left the ice. Thankfully, he is back and seems to be doing okay. Hopefully, he remains in good health through the remainder of these playoffs.
