Patriots’ Drake Maye got ‘special’ game ball from Mike Vrabel after 5-TD masterpiece
The New England Patriots are AFC East champions, and it’s because of the season they had this year. Another one of those reasons is Drake Maye, who put the team on his back this season and played some of the best football in the league at quarterback. His work did not go unnoticed, and head coach Mike Vrabel made sure to give him his props, especially after his five-touchdown performance against the New York Jets in Week 17.
Vrabel gave Maye a special game ball after the win against the Jets, and it had the games on it that the Patriots won on the road.
“There’s no secret how I feel about Drake,” Vrabel said via Mark Daniels of MassLive.
Maye has had an unbelievable season, and even the players on the team didn’t know that he was capable of this. Stefon Diggs was asked after the Jets game if he knew that the quarterback was this good when he joined the team.
“No I did not,” Diggs said, via NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. “He surprised all of us. I knew he was going to be good but, no, I didn’t know he was going to be this good. I’m just super proud of him.”
There’s no reason why Maye shouldn’t be in MVP conversations with the way he’s played, and he has the Patriots as AFC East champions.
If Maye can continue to play this way heading into the postseason, there shouldn’t be a reason why they’re not making the Super Bowl. At the same time, it will not be easy, as it will be a competitive conference to get through.
The Patriots have played well on both sides of the ball, and they have the pieces they need to make some real noise.
