Pat Riley leaves no doubt about his future with Heat after play-in loss

The Miami Heat’s 2025-26 season came to a disappointing end with the team not making the playoffs after losing their opening round play-in game against the Charlotte Hornets. With potential changes on the horizon, longtime Heat executive Pat Riley left no doubt that he is going to remain part of the franchise for the foreseeable future, as per ClutchPoints’ own Brett Siegel.

Pat Riley held his annual end of season press conference for media on Monday morning, and it came on the heels of a report that Riley was now answering to Heat CEO Nick Arison, in addition to his father Micky the team’s primary owner, when it comes to team decision-making.

In any case, it’s certainly shaping up to be a busy offseason for the Heat as they attempt to get back into contender status in the Eastern Conference. The Heat have been a team linked to Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo for quite some time, and there’s also the issue of Norman Powell’s potential contract extension to address.

As far as Riley, he’s held his current position as team president since he first joined the organization in 1995. While he’s coached the team in multiple stints, he’s kept that role as the Heat’s lead decision-maker since then. Among his major moves as an executive were hiring Erik Spoelstra as head coach, drafting Dwyane Wade, trading for Shaquille O’Neal and signing LeBron James and Chris Bosh as free agents, among others.

This upcoming season will be Riley’s 32nd season with the franchise, and potentially one of their most important.
