Pakistan Women's squad for tour of South Africa announced, Fatima Sana to lead

The Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday, January 14, announced the ODI and T20I squads of the Pakistan Women’s cricket team for their upcoming tour of South Africa. The multi-format white-ball tour between the two fierce nations is scheduled to begin on February 10 in Potchefstroom.

The tour plays a crucial role in Pakistan’s preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to take place in June this year. Star cricketer Fatima Sana will continue to lead the side in both formats.

Aliya Riaz, Ayesha Zafar, Gull Feroza, Muneeba Ali, Nashra Sundhu, Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Ameen and Tasmia Rubab feature in both the ODI and T20I squads. Meanwhile, uncapped batter Saira Jabeen and right-arm fast bowler Humna Bilal have earned their maiden call-ups to the T20I squad. Both players have been included as Pakistan looks to expand its talent pool ahead of the global tournament.

Several experienced players have returned to the ODI squad after missing out on selection for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Returning to the 15-member roster are opening batters Ayesha Zafar and Gull Feroza, left-arm pacer Tasmia Rubab, and wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi, who replace members from the previous line-up.

The ODI squad features fast bowler Diana Baig, wicketkeeper Najiha Alvi, Sadaf Shamas, and Syeda Aroob Shah, who are not part of the T20I group. Humna Saira, Tuba Hassan, and Eyman Fatima are retained solely in the T20I squad, clarifying player movements between formats.

The team will undergo a pre-series training camp from February 1 to 6 at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi. During the tour, mentor Wahab Riaz will be assisted by a support staff that includes Imran Farhat (batting coach), Umaid Asif (fast bowling coach), Abdur Rehman (spin bowling coach), and Abdul Majeed (fielding coach).

All three T20Is will be played as day-night fixtures between February 10 and 16 across Potchefstroom, Benoni, and Kimberley. Pakistan will then play a 50-over warm-up match before the three-match ODI series, scheduled from February 22 to March 1 in Bloemfontein, Centurion, and Durban.

The Women in Green last toured South Africa in January 2021 for a bilateral ODI series and also featured in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, where matches were held across Cape Town and Paarl.
