Despite sitting 11 places and 19 points behind their opponents in the league table, Nottingham Forest head into the first leg as favourites on home soil.

Vitor Pereira’s side appear to have found form at the perfect moment. After winning just once in his opening seven matches in charge, losing four, the Portuguese manager now leads a team unbeaten in their last eight games across all competitions.

Forest have won their last three matches in style, including a 4-1 victory over Burnley and a remarkable 5-0 win at Sunderland. That run has lifted them six points clear of the relegation zone with just four games remaining.

Their place in the competition came after UEFA ruled that Lyon and Crystal Palace could not both participate due to shared ownership. Since then, Forest have embraced their first European campaign in 30 years.

They finished 13th in the league phase before eliminating Fenerbahce, Midtjylland and Porto to reach their first European semi-final since 1984.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, make the trip to Nottingham after a surprise defeat to Fulham ended a strong run of five wins in six matches.

That loss dropped Unai Emery’s side to fifth in the Premier League, the final Champions League qualification spot. However, with an eight-point cushion over sixth-placed Brighton and only four matches remaining, a top-five finish looks highly likely.

Emery boasts an exceptional record in this competition, having won it four times in the last 12 years – three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal.

Villa have also impressed in Europe this season, winning seven of their eight league-phase matches to finish second. They followed that up with victories over Lille and Bologna, beating the latter 7-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, while conceding just once in the knockout rounds so far.

However, their recent away form domestically has been less convincing, with no wins in their last five matches on the road, including three defeats in their last four.

The sides met less than three weeks ago in the league, drawing 1-1 at the City Ground. While Villa have lost just once in their last five meetings with Forest, they have not won on this ground in their last four visits.

Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White heads into tonight’s game in fantastic form, with four goals and an assist in his last two outings, including a hat trick in his most recent appearance at the City Ground.

The England international has scored 16 goals this season in all competitions, including the one that sent them through to the semi final in the second leg of their previous European clash with Porto, and has already scored against Aston Villa this season – having done so in the league back in January.

Get Gibbs-White to have a shot on target tonight at EVS with Betfred’s Turbo Boost.
