Fans say son of NFL legend trending towards bust as ‘Mr Consistency’ emerges as team’s WR1

Marvin Harrison Jr. seemingly appears to have lost the ability to catch a football.

The Arizona Cardinals selected the former Ohio State wide receiver with the fourth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The organization had every expectation that he would go on to perform like his father, Marvin Harrison, had during his 13-year career in the NFL.

The elder Harrison was an eight-time All-Pro receiver, who amassed 15,463 receiving yards and 130 touchdowns in a career which saw him elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

In Harrison Jr.’s rookie season, he looked as though he was on course to follow a similar, though not exact, trajectory, showing some flashes of brilliance and recording 885 yards and eight touchdowns from 62 receptions.

Year 2, however, left very little to be desired, with the 23-year-old recording just 608 yards and four trips to the end zone from 41 receptions, while dropping the football became a frequent occurrence.

With all 32 NFL teams having now reported to training camp, now is the perfect opportunity for players both new, and old – who perhaps didn’t have the season they envisaged last time out – to engage in a fresh start.

But his training camp hasn’t gotten off to the best start so far.

In fact, it’s might have been the worst way possible for a receiver who is clearly lacking in self-confidence.

Multiple videos have surfaced of the 23-year-old dropping catchable passes from quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who enters the new season with a re-worked deal worth $15 million in 2026.

“He had a ton of drops in school too and everyone just overlooked it,” one user wrote on X.

“Dude can’t catch a cold,” a second commented.

“It’s over for him man,” a third added before a fourth wrote, “Total bust.”

A fifth fan weighed in with, “Michael Wilson szn.”

That particular fan may be onto something, with third-year pro Wilson having enjoyed a breakout year in Arizona amid all the chaos surrounding the QB situation with former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray then on the team.

The 26-year-old put together a 1,000-plus yard campaign in 2025, along with seven touchdowns – matching his career total scores entering Year 3.

Unlike Harrison Jr., in his early training camp showings, he has demonstrated that he could yet earn the nickname “Mr. Consistency” going forward.

It has led to some speculation that he may play a much larger role in head coach Mike LaFleur’s scheme next season, which would likely come at the detriment of his teammate’s reps and production.

Compared to Harrison Jr’s nine recorded drops in his two-year career, Wilson has just four in three seasons of work, despite having more targets – 255 to 189.

But 11-on-11 padded work has only just begun, so there is a lot more to learn before labelling Harrison Jr. with the ‘bust’ tag just yet.
