Noah Lyles oozes confidence after 100m victory at Rome Diamond League

Noah Lyles backed up his confidence with another statement performance on Thursday, opening his Diamond League season with a victory in the men’s 100 meters in Rome.

The American Olympic champion arrived at the starting line with his trademark swagger, drawing energy from the crowd inside the Stadio Olimpico before delivering when it mattered most. Despite a slower start out of the blocks, Lyles quickly erased the deficit and surged past the field over the final stretch.

He crossed the finish line in 9.88 seconds, securing the win ahead of Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, who finished second in 9.94. Olympic 200-meter champion Letsile Tebogo rounded out the top three.

Lyles Already Looking Ahead

Lyles did not sound satisfied with just one victory.

“I had a great finish,” he said after the race. “I can go again. Who wants to go?”

His confidence only grew as he reflected on the final meters. According to Lyles, he knew the outcome before he even reached the line.

“I am not showing anywhere to lose. I am here to win,” he said. “10 metres before the finish line I knew the race was over and I had already won it. I was thinking about how I was going to celebrate it.”

The performance served as another reminder of Lyles’ closing speed. While several runners held an advantage midway through the race, he powered through the field to claim a convincing victory.

Rome marked the start of Lyles’ Diamond League campaign, and if his post-race comments are any indication, he expects Thursday’s result to be the first of many this season.
