‘No way’ – Troy Aikman thinks Jason Kelce is solution to Eagles’ woes but NFL fans are split

After their Super Bowl LIX victory last season, many thought the Philadelphia Eagles would be the next NFL dynasty.

But the Eagles were defeated 22-19 in overtime by the Los Angeles Chargers in an epic Monday Night Football clash which sends them to 8-5 on the season.

With a depleted offensive line that is missing Lane Johnson and had an injury scare to guard Landon Dickerson, Jalen Hurts just could not find his rhythm and had five total turnovers in the contest.

Two of those came in the same play, with him firing an interception in the second quarter, only for Chargers defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand to fumble the ball.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP was able to gather the ball up, but lost it again when he was tackled, resulting in another fumble.

This is the first time since records began in 1978 that the same player has turned the ball over twice on the same play, as Hurts recorded a career-high four interceptions and five total turnovers.

But sports commentator Joe Buck believes he knows exactly what the Eagles need to do to stop the three-game skid – go out and bring back Jason Kelce.

“Maybe the Eagles, with these banged-up interior offensive linemen, could call on our friend, old 38-year-old Jason Kelce,” Buck commented during the broadcast.

Former NFL quarterback and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman weighed in and backed up Buck’s idea.

“I would be surprised if they haven’t already at some point this year, even last year” Aikman replied.

“I’d be knocking on his door every week to try to get him to come back. He can still do it.”

“They brought Brandon Graham back, and he’s 37,” Buck added.

Kelce – who was part of the Eagles team that won Super Bowl LII – and is a six-time first-team All-Pro center, retired from playing in the NFL in 2023 after 13 seasons.

Since being in retirement, Kelce, who earlier this season defended his former quarterback, has gone on to achieve a stunning body transformation, in which he has dropped over 20lbs which he attributed to his back and knees feeling “better”.

With this in mind, fans flocked to social media to react to Buck and Aikman’s comments, with some disputing the idea that he would be able to be as dominant if he were to return this season.

“He’s lost a ton of weight. No way,” one fan wrote on X.

“He has 4 children that depend on him being active,” a second commented.

Others, however, agreed, believing he could still be a key figure on the offensive line.

“If I were the Eagles, I’d be begging him every week too 😂 man still got it,” one fan said.

After the game, Kelce took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his frustration with his former team, posting, “Fml.”

Whether his frustration with the team is enough to offer to come back and do a job for the team for the rest of the season is uncertain, but it wouldn’t be the first time that a retired Eagle unretired.

Brandon Graham retired at the end of last season, but following the mid-season retirement of Za’Darius Smith, a month after signing a one-year, $9 million deal with the Eagles, the defensive end chose to come back to the Birds.

It must be said that unlike Graham, Kelce hasn’t expressed a desire to come out of retirement, especially now that he is a father of four.

But Eagles fans can keep dreaming, especially as their aspirations to repeat as champions continues to slip away.
