Burnley are on the hunt for a new manager following the sacking of Scott Parker at the end of last month after just shy of two years in charge at Turf Moor.

In his first year at the helm, Parker racked up 100 points in the Championship en route to his third promotion into the Premier League as manager, but couldn’t prevent the club falling to an instant relegation and return to the second tier this season.

Parker’s assistant, Mike Jackson, has been given the caretaker role for the final four games of the campaign but has stated he is not interested in taking the role of manager on full time, leaving speculation as to who might walk out into the Turf Moor dugout on the opening weekend of next season.

Gerrard is the name who has been linked most to the vacancy, the former England midfielder has been rumoured to be of interest to several jobs up and down the UK since his departure from his most recent job in Saudi Arabia in January last year.

The 45-year-old has never managed outside the top flight in any of his three senior jobs since hanging up his boots, notably winning the Scottish league with Rangers before spending a year in the Premier League with Aston Villa prior to his move to the Middle East.

Current Cardiff manager Brian Barry-Murphy is another name linked with the Clarets this summer, the Irishman having impressed in securing automatic promotion from League One with the Welsh side in his first season in charge.

The 47-year-old is a highly rated coach, having previously been on the books at Manchester City, leading the likes of Cole Palmer, Nico O’Reilly and Liam Delap for the U21 side in recent years, prior to his subsequent moves to Leicester and now Cardiff.

Current Wales manager Craig Bellamy is also being linked with a return to Turf Moor, two years on from departing the club after a two-year spell acting as assistant manager to Vincent Kompany, which saw the Clarets win the Championship title with 101 points in his first season.

The 46-year-old has been managing his native Wales, his first senior role as manager, since July 2024 but failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup, falling at the play-off stage in a penalty shoot out against Bosnia in a home semi final.

Other names linked with a move to the Lancashire club include current Derby manager John Eustace, former Tottenham and Brentford boss Thomas Frank, current Netherlands assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, and current Ferencvaros boss Robbie Keane.
