A video has re-emerged of Rolly Romero getting dropped in sparring by a boxer once touted as “the next Floyd Mayweather” by the man himself.

Romero defends his WBA welterweight title on Saturday night against Teofimo Lopez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Last month, during the early stages of his camp, Romero went viral for slamming a particularly unruly training partner to the canvas.

And now, there is a new Romero sparring video making the rounds on social media.

The clip in question is of heavy-handed lightweight prospect J’Hon Ingram decking Romero with a left hook at the Mayweather Gym.

Footage was initially leaked in February 2023, but has since been re-uploaded to Instagram by Ingram’s manager, Sal Jobe.

At the time of the spar, Ingram was a blue-chip Mayweather Promotions prospect navigating the early stages of his professional career, while Romero was already established at world level.

In fact, three months after they locked horns, Romero would stop Ismael Barroso to claim the WBA super lightweight strap.

Mayweather would later say of Ingram: “This young fighter right here, J’Hon, I want you guys to look out for him.

“This could be the next Floyd Mayweather; we just never know.”

Who is J’Hon Ingram?

Ingram fought on his mentor’s undercards for exhibition bouts with Deji Olatunji and Aaron Chalmers.

But he would eventually grow frustrated with his lack of activity in the paid ranks.

In 2024, after repeatedly calling to be released from his contract, Ingram got his wish.

He then became one of the first credentialed boxers to cross over to Misfits before their expansion into the traditional boxing sphere with MF Pro.

The 25-year-old got off to a flying start, blowing away journeymen and middling prospects on Wasserman and Misfits cards.

However, he suffered his first setback as a pro in June when he fell to a unanimous decision defeat to 19-0 short-notice replacement Devin Cushing.

Ingram (9-1, 7KOs) now finds himself in the midst of a career rebuild.
