NBA rumors: Giannis Antetokounmpo trade suitors don’t trust Bucks over shady tactics
Trade speculation surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to intensify, but a recent report suggests some potential suitors around the NBA remain skeptical of the Milwaukee Bucks because of how the organization handled discussions involving the two-time MVP before the trade deadline.
According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Eric Nehm, several teams remain wary after Milwaukee briefly entertained trade interest in Antetokounmpo ahead of February’s deadline before ultimately keeping the franchise cornerstone.
“Yet there is, the sources say, a sense of distrust from some teams because of how the Bucks handled trade discussions around Antetokounmpo at the deadline,” Amick and Nehm wrote.
The report noted that Bucks general manager Jon Horst opened the door for interested teams to present potential offers for Antetokounmpo. At the time, rival executives believed Milwaukee was at least willing to explore the possibility of moving the most accomplished player in franchise history.
However, Antetokounmpo remained with the organization after the deadline passed, leading some around the league to question whether the Bucks were ever seriously considering a deal.
“As we reported at the time, that was the first time Bucks general manager Jon Horst actually opened the door to any team that wanted to make a pitch for the two-time MVP,” Amick and Nehm wrote.
“As the deadline approached, the Bucks were listening to offers and signaling a willingness to deal the most accomplished player in the franchise’s history. But in the days leading up to the deadline, the skepticism among rival teams about the Bucks’ level of sincerity was proved justified when Antetokounmpo remained in Milwaukee.”
NBA teams reportedly seek more transparency from Bucks in Giannis trade talks

According to the report, some executives viewed Milwaukee’s approach less as an attempt to complete a trade and more as an opportunity to gather information ahead of a potentially pivotal offseason.
“It was, in the eyes of some, a fact-finding mission that was intended to set the stage for the summer to come,” Amick and Nehm wrote.
As a result, several teams reportedly prefer a more direct process if Milwaukee eventually decides to seriously engage in Antetokounmpo negotiations.
“As such, sources say some teams are imploring the Bucks to come to them with all the final details of an offer that they would accept rather than going back and forth,” Amick and Nehm wrote.
“The hope, of course, is that taking that tact would minimize the locker-room impact of the rumor mill.”
The uncertainty surrounding Antetokounmpo remains one of the NBA’s biggest offseason storylines. While the Bucks have undergone significant changes following a disappointing season, including the hiring of Taylor Jenkins as head coach, Antetokounmpo remains under contract and has publicly maintained his desire to compete for championships.
Whether Milwaukee ultimately chooses to build around its superstar or seriously entertain trade proposals, Amick and Nehm’s reporting suggests rival teams may seek greater transparency before engaging in another round of negotiations.
