NBA rumors: Damian Lillard trying to recruit Giannis to Blazers, but it’s not working
The Milwaukee Bucks have reached a difficult crossroad as they navigate an 18-29 record and a current four-game losing streak in the NBA. These struggles have led officials to finally consider trade offers for NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Amid this uncertainty, Giannis has remained active on social media, jokingly campaigning for an endorsement deal while he is currently sidelined for four to six weeks with a calf injury. In the meantime, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Golden State Warriors have emerged as surprising suitors.
Portland has officially expressed interest in acquiring the two-time MVP, recognizing that they could serve as a facilitator since they control the Bucks’ draft capital for 2028, 2029, and 2030.
They could potentially participate in a multi-team deal to acquire players like Mikal Bridges to pair with Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday.
According to a report from HoopsHype, analyst Jake Fischer said that he has no indication the Bucks are in any rush to sift through this very tricky dynamic. Fischer believes it is still more likely than not that Giannis remains a member of the Milwaukee Bucks beyond the Thursday trade deadline.
The front office will likely start to sift through all the intel and negotiations they have had right now with a better understanding of situations for this summer. At this point, Portland is confidently in the mix of teams trying to get Giannis, but they must overcome factors working against them.
Specifically, the Blazers do not have a clear-cut blue-chip prospect to offer. Furthermore, reports suggest that Giannis does not want to head to that marketplace despite his strong personal connections with both Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday.
In a separate hypothetical scenario, ESPN analyst Bobby Marks suggested that the Philadelphia 76ers could end up with the best offer for the Bucks. This deal would involve the 76ers trading rookie VJ Edgecombe, Paul George, and multiple first-round picks for Antetokounmpo.
This leaves the Blazers and Warriors as the most prominent teams linked to the Greek star as the deadline approaches, though the lack of a desired market in Portland remains a significant hurdle.
