Mystics’ Sonia Citron ruled out for Sky clash with foot injury

The Washington Mystics are scheduled to take on the Chicago Sky on Tuesday with the goal of advancing to a 4-4 record on the season. Unfortunately, the club will be without star guard Sonia Citron due to an injury.

Washington officially ruled Citron out for Tuesday’s contest as she is dealing with a foot sprain injury, according to Mystics insider Joshua Valdez. It’s said that more information about Citron’s injury will be reported on Tuesday. This is also the first missed game in her two-year career.

“Sonia Citron listed OUT for tomorrow’s game against the Sky with a left foot sprain,” reported Valdez. “We’ll find out more tomorrow. This will be the first missed game of her WNBA career.”

With the 22-year-old guard ruled out, the Mystics will likely rely on Georgia Amoore and Alicia Florez to lead the way in the backcourt. Meanwhile, Cassandre Prosper and/or Rori Harmon could see extra minutes against the Sky on Tuesday night.

Hopefully, it’s not a serious injury, and Citron can return to the lineup sooner rather than later. She’s been fantastic through seven games this season, averaging 17.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per contest while shooting 54.2% from the floor and hitting 30.8% of her three-point attempts.

The 2025 Rookie of the Year runner-up earned an All-Star nod in her first season in the WNBA. That puts Sonia Citron in a prestigious list, as only 29 other players have been named an All-Star in their respective rookie seasons. Citron joins women like Paige Bueckers(2025), Caitlin Clark (2024), Angel Reese (2024), Sue Bird (2002), and Chamique Holdsclaw (1999).
