Monaco vs PSG predictions and betting tips – Intriguing encounter in France

Paris Saint-Germain are the defending champions in France, and the bookies have them down as overwhelming favourites to win the title this season too. However, their lead at the top of the table is not particularly large.

Monaco were not far behind PSG until recently, but their form has collapsed in recent weeks. Can they spring a surprise here?

Monaco vs PSG predictions

Paris Saint-Germain were victorious in the Champions League in midweek, surviving a couple of scares to beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-3.

That result moved the defending champions up to second in the standings. With three games left to play in the league phase, PSG are well positioned to finish in the top eight and proceed directly to the round of 16.

Given that, you might expect Luis Enrique’s side to be well clear of the chasing pack in France. In fact, their lead at the summit of the standings is slender.

After 13 rounds of fixtures, PSG are top on 30 points. They are being kept honest by Marseille and Lens, both of whom are within two points of the champions.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that PSG will not be first when Ligue 1 pauses for its winter break on December 15.

First and foremost, credit is due to Marseille and Lens. Both teams have matched PSG for wins, emerging victorious on nine occasions up to now.

Marseille have outscored their arch-rivals, while Lens have conceded the same number of goals. Even more impressive is the fact that the former are above PSG on expected goals difference, a measure of chance quality created and conceded.

None of those facts alter PSG’s status as overwhelming title favourites with the bookies, some of which price them as short as 1/6.

Yet while Luis Enrique’s side are expected to develop greater consistency as the campaign proceeds, they have not been as reliable as usual so far.

Indeed, PSG have won just five of their last nine league games, a sequence which includes a defeat by Marseille and draws with Lille, Strasbourg and Lorient.

PSG routinely administered thrashings in Ligue 1 last time out, but so far this season they have won only three games by a three-goal margin, and none by more than that.

This time last month, Monaco were among PSG’s closest challengers. But three consecutive defeats in November have sent them sliding down the standings, and they head into this match down in eighth place.

After a bright start to his tenure, Sebastien Pocognoli needs to get Monaco back on track as quickly as possible. But a game against PSG is not the ideal assignment for an out-of-form side.

Monaco vs PSG betting tips

PSG head to the Stade Louis II to do battle with Monaco in Ligue 1 this weekend.

Away win most likely outcome

PSG have won each of their last three matches in Ligue 1,

After a slow start due to the absence of a proper pre-season and an injury crisis of sorts, there is evidence to suggest PSG have rediscovered their rhythm.

The Parisians are likely to overwhelm Monaco at the Stade Louis II. The principality club have struggled in recent weeks, and it is hard to see them being able to hang with the champions for 90 minutes.

Monaco may well make the net bulge, though. Only Marseille, PSG and Lille have scored more goals in Ligue 1, while no one has a higher xG.

Yet even if the Monaco attack is able to cause the PSG defence problems, it is unlikely to be enough for the hosts to avoid defeat.

PSG to take early control

Monaco hit the front early on Wednesday, scoring against Pafos after five minutes in the Champions League (the game finished 2-2).

They have taken their time to get going in Ligue 1 recently, however, with Monaco behind at the interval in 4-1 losses to Lens and Rennes this month.

Monaco rank a lowly ninth in the first-half table, and PSG will aim to make a fast start to take advantage of their potentially fragile confidence.

The Parisians often have a shorter preparation time in Ligue 1 due to their participation in continental competition, but Monaco also played in the Champions League in midweek, and unlike PSG their match was away from home.

PSG are poised to get out of the blocks quickly as they seek a 10th league win of 2025/26.

Barcola worth a punt

Luis Enrique has no shortage of attacking options now that almost everyone is fit again.

It can be difficult to anticipate who will start up front for PSG, making the anytime goalscorer market a little tricky to navigate at times.

Bradley Barcola looks set to be included in the starting XI this weekend, though, and he is our pick to find the back of the net.

Barcola has struck five times for PSG in Ligue 1 this season, making him the club’s joint-top scorer.
