Michael Carrick’s big routine change from Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim revealed

Michael Carrick has already made a key change to Manchester United’s training schedule since returning to the club.

The players’ weekly routine has been altered following his appointment as caretaker manager last month.

Carrick’s overhaul signifies a change from Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim’s time at the club.

The five-time Premier League winner took over from Darren Fletcher in January following Amorim’s sacking as manager.

According to The Sun, Carrick has since allocated the players a day off after matches.

This had not been the case under their last two permanent managers.

Instead, Ten Hag and Amorim would hold recovery days the day after each first-team fixture.

The players who had not played at least 45 minutes the previous day would even be put through a full training session.

However, the squad had tended to have Tuesdays off under Amorim during the first half of this season.

It was a move which came amid United’s sparse fixture schedule with no European football and an early exit from the Carabao Cup.

In a change under Carrick, though, recovery sessions now take place when the players return to Carrington two days after a match.

Meanwhile, training days have been shortened by the caretaker boss as well as being made more intense.

Carrick’s coaching staff have also shifted their focus more towards individual work with certain players.

As a result of his training alterations, United’s players will have Sunday off this weekend.

The Red Devils face Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday with kick-off at 12.30pm, live on talkSPORT.

Carrick has made a perfect start to his reign as caretaker boss at United.

Since his appointment, he has won each of his first three matches against Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham.

Those results have seen the Red Devils move up to fourth as they chase a Champions League return.

United have not played in the competition since their group stage exit under Ten Hag in 2023.

Meanwhile, they missed out on Europe altogether this term by finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final.
