The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) launched the women’s edition of the highly popular T20 Mumbai League in the presence of Rohit Sharma and Sayali Satghare on Sunday, March 15.

The men’s edition of the tournament is three seasons old with its last iteration being contested in June 2025, right after the Indian Premier League (IPL).

While the men’s tournament consists of eight teams across Mumbai, the inaugural women’s tournament will have three sides with its first season set to commence later this season after the IPL.

Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd, PRS Infraprojects LLP and World Star Sporting Private Limited are the three organisations handling the functions of the three women’s side this year.

Rohit, who was in attendance at the launch ceremony, unveiled the trophies of both the men’s and women’s competitions along with Satghare, another Mumbai local who recently made her Test debut against Australia.

"I'm very happy with how Mumbai cricket is shaping up - not just in the IPL team, but also with what the T20 Mumbai League has done for many young cricketers. We saw so many cricketers who played in the T20 Mumbai now go on to play for IPL teams and the national team as well. It is a big platform. I'm happy that we are doing this again after a very successful last season. I was involved last season. I saw it was a very tough task. I have to give credit to each and every member of the MCA for pulling it through. This year, there are three women's teams as well, so it's getting bigger,” Rohit was quoted as saying on ESPNcricinfo.

The men’s version of the T20 Mumbai League has seen a host of international superstars compete. These include the likes of India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav along with Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur, Prithivi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane to name a few.

It is worth mentioning that the schedule for both competitions is yet to be released. With the tournament always scheduled to take place after the conclusion of the IPL, the organisers would wait for the release of the entire schedule of the showpiece tournament before releasing their own.
