The Dallas Mavericks walked into Paycom Center hoping to test themselves against the league’s hottest team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Mavericks kept it level early, tied after one. Then everything shifted. The Thunder ripped the game open with pace, pressure, and pure confidence, outscoring the Mavericks 77–47 across the second and third quarters. The arena lit up. The crowd roared. Anthony Davis’ struggles hit harder because of what came before. Just days ago, he looked dominant. He hammered the Nuggets with 32 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks in a big Mavericks win. He followed that with a gritty 17-point, 17-rebound, three-block night against the Heat. Those performances suggested he had turned a corner. But this? One field goal. No rhythm. No presence. A severe drop that stirred real concern about his conditioning, his role, and the pressure building around him —  especially with voices like Carmelo Anthony warning him about “Chris Paul–treatment” expectations.

Dallas needs Davis steady. They need him certain. They need him to be the anchor he was supposed to be.
