Manchester United to quadruple Kobbie Mainoo’s weekly salary
Manchester United are set to begin discussions with Kobbie Mainoo over a new long-term contract that would see his salary quadrupled.
talkSPORT understands club chiefs are optimistic of agreeing a deal with the academy product before the end of the season.

Mainoo has endured a chaotic campaign having fallen out of favour with former head coach Ruben Amorim only to see himself reinstated into the first-team picture under interim boss Michael Carrick.
Mainoo’s resurrection
The midfielder has started all three games under Carrick and has repaid the Manchester United legend with a string of fine performances.
Mainoo has played a key role in the victories over Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham and is now set to be handsomely rewarded for his efforts.
The England international currently earns around £25,000 a week at Old Trafford however talkSPORT understands that United are set to offer Mainoo a six-figure wage which would quadruple his current earnings.
The 20-year-old appeared set to leave Old Trafford before Christmas after being frozen out by Amorim.
He did not start any of Man United’s 20 Premier League fixtures under the Portuguese coach this season prior to his dismissal last month.
Frustration boiled over in December when the midfielder’s brother was spotted at Old Trafford wearing a t-shirt which read ‘ Free Kobbie Mainoo’ during United’s 4-4 draw against Bournemouth.
Mainoo was perplexed by his lack of game time and was subsequently linked with a host of clubs including reigning Serie A champions Napoli.
United were believed to be willing to sanction a loan move in January to aid Mainoo’s development, however a permanent transfer was never considered an option.
But a return to the fold under Carrick has quashed all talk of an exit with United keen to tie the midfielder down for the long term.

Mainoo has featured in every minute under Carrick and appears to have quickly recaptured his best form.
A salary to match his status
That has prompted United to prepare the terms of a new deal with his advisers with Mainoo still on the same contract he signed at the age of 17.
Mainoo remains one of the lowest paid players in the Manchester United squad after signing his last deal in 2023.
His current contract contains performance-rated clauses which were difficult to achieve under Amorim.
He still has a year left on that deal, with the option of a further 12 months.
However, the club are willing to renegotiate a new contract befitting his current status in the first-team squad.

United are aware that allowing Mainoo’s contractual situation to fester would be a huge risk for the long term with potential suitors tracking his movements.
With the impending exit of Casemiro this summer and uncertainty over the future of Bruno Fernandes, United know that Mainoo is likely to be a key component in midfield in the coming years.
