Manchester United are set to more than quadruple Kobbie Mainoo’s wages with a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, talkSPORT understands.

Harry Maguire is also in talks over a new one-year deal, plus the option for an extra 12 months as the club look to prepare for next season.

The wage bump will see Mainoo take home £120,000-per-week as a base wage with the contract set to be until 2031.

talkSPORT understands that the midfielder is currently earning £25,000-a-week at the Theatre of Dreams.

Sources suggest that Mainoo could pocket more money in add-ons, and as long as his progression continues, United have plans to offer him a new deal in 2028.

Maguire’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, but the experienced centre-back has performed well for Michael Carrick.

Both players have also earned England recalls to Thomas Tuchel‘s expanded 35-man squad.

Maguire hasn’t played for the Three Lions since September 2024, and Mainoo has been out of the scene since the exact same match against the Republic of Ireland.

But both are now back ahead of the World Cup as they look to showcase why they should be on the plane to North America in the friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

Rewarded

Since Carrick’s arrival as United interim manager, Mainoo has started in all nine matches, playing the full 90 minutes in all of them, bar the one defeat under Carrick to Newcastle United.

Before that, he hadn’t started a game in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim.

Even Maguire before his injury wasn’t heavily involved in the team either.

But he has again started every single match under Carrick.

Speaking about Mainoo recently, Carrick was full of praise, but also declared he believes there is more to come from the academy graduate.

He said: “He can always improve on a lot of things, that’s the age he’s at just for starters.

“There’s so much more to come and develop and that’s just natural, that’s not a negative on Kobbie, that’s just the stage he’s in in his career, so hopefully he has got a lot layers to improve and keep developing on that.

“I think he’s done really well. Not having a lot of football for a period of time to come in and play a run of games and find your rhythm.

“I think he did that really quickly and there’s a natural kind of flow really and I thought he was really good again on the weekend.

“Putting in a performance where he did a little bit of everything and controlled the game and spells when he had to defend and it was really impressive.”

Equally, the former United midfielder has enjoyed Maguire’s performances.

On the 33-year-old, he said: “Harry’s done fantastic for us, I think it’s pretty obvious to say that.

“He’s had a big impact on what we’ve done, so, we’ll have to see.

“I enjoy working with him, I think he’s been fantastic for this club and we’ll see what comes of that.”
