Man United v Aston Villa prediction

Man United have stormed into top four contention since Michael Carrick took over in charge. Winning six of his eight Premier League matches in charge.

It has positioned the Red Devils as the favourites (1/3 with Ladbrokes) to clinch one of he coveted Champions League qualifications positions. Something that looked touch and go to say the least under former manager Ruben Amorim.

But after losing his first match in charge, away at Newcastle last time out. All eyes will be on Carrick to see how he reacts and takes his team into this crunch tie with fellow Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa.

Villa have been on a torrid run of form. After competing for top spot in the Autumn and Winter. Unai Emery’s side have dropped valuable points over the last month. Picking up a single point in their last four league matches.

It sets this match up to be a cracker, with only goal difference separating the two sides.

The outcome of Sunday’s game could have real ramifications for how Emery looks at the rest of the season. His expert Europa League nous – winning four titles – could well take priority if he sees a clearer path to Champions League qualification in that competition.

Carrick may shuffle the pack after the loss at St James’ Park. Amad Diallo has been impressive and may get recalled to the starting XI.

Kobbie Mainoo has fitted seamlessly back into midfield. But does Carrick field Benjamin Sesko up top or a more fluid front-three including Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Villa’s skipper John McGinn returned from the bench in their 1-0 away win at Lille in midweek. He will be back in line for serious minutes on Sunday. However Polish international Matty Cash may face a late fitness test to be named in the squad.

Draw no bet – Manchester United – 3/10 on BetMGM

United may have lost last time out, but the club are riding a crest of a wave and there’s a renewed feel good factor under Michael Carrick. On home soil they are the favourites to vanquish Villa, strengthening their top four and leaving their opponents scrambling.

Despite their poor form, Emery will know a win against their closest top four rivals will be the perfect tonic to kick-start a strong end to the season.

Home advantage may pay here, but United can still be susceptible at the back.

Casemiro to score and Man United to win – 17/4 on Ladbrokes

Some in the media, thought Casemiro was done at the top level of European football. But the Brazilian international is still holding it down in midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes in one of the most in-form teams in the league.

Casemiro has a habit of scoring some important goals. Four of his six strikes have come at Old Trafford. In a game that could be huge for United’s season, the multiple Champions League winner could be the man of the moment.

RequestABets – Fernandes and Rogers 2+ shots on target each and 2+ fouls won each – 60/1 on SkyBet

A Sky Bet RequestABet we couldn’t ignore including both sides’ talismen. Bruno Fernandes has averaged 2.46 shots per game this campaign, with 18 shots on target in 26 matches.

His counterpart Morgan Rogers scored two peaches against United in Villa’s home win. The England man averages 2.8 shots per game and has netted eight goals this season.

They will be the tempo-setters for their respective sides. Both defences will have to be on ten toes to ensure they don’t get ahead of steam.
