Lindsey Vonn airlifted off mountain after nasty crash just 13 seconds in Winter Olympics run – days after tearing ACL

Lindsey Vonn’s return to Olympic skiing lasted just 13 seconds as she crashed out at the top of the women’s downhill course.

The American ruptured her ACL in her left knee just eight days before the Winter Olympics started.

However, Vonn insisted she would still compete in a knee brace, though her time in Milan was cut short after she clipped a gate at the top of the course and took a fall.

Medics quickly attended the 41-year-old and she was airlifted to hospital for the second time in a little over a week.

“We all know the difficulties Lindsey was going through in the last days, and I think in the end she risked too much and that’s this kind of crash can happen of course if you are not healthy the consequences are even worse, but Lindsey wanted to do this no matter what,” retired World Cup alpine ski racer Tina Maze told TNT Sports.

“It’s really tough for everyone here to see this especially for her family and teammates and everyone working with her. It’s just terrible. A tough day.”
