Knicks fan Adam Sandler still in disbelief over bonkers NBA Finals Game 4 ending

When the New York Knicks lost Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs, the focus was on stagnant offense, poor transition defense and controversial officiating. Though, once people moved past what transpired on the court, they turned their attention to the Madison Square Garden crowd. Absurdly-priced tickets naturally produced a heavy white-collar spectating presence, which did not appear as outwardly passionate as past audiences.

The fans who are watching at home want to know they are well represented at MSG. There was a noticeably different atmosphere in Game 4, even when the Knicks faced historically insurmountable odds. Household names like Adam Sandler remained engaged and did not head home early when the Spurs led by 29 points on the road. And they were rewarded for their loyalty via arguably the most incomprehensible comeback the NBA world has ever seen.

The actor and comedian is still buzzing with excitement on Thursday, as he tries to process the Knicks’ monumental 107-106 victory. Sandler had a feeling that something special was going to ensue in “The World’s Most Famous Arena” when he and his wife took their court side seats.

“It was tremendous,” the New York native told friend and pundit Dan Patrick while walking in the city. “Before the game, I was saying to my wife (actress and producer Jackie Sandler) ‘I think this is gonna be the highlight of our {sports-watching} career.’

“Then the first quarter didn’t go well, and there was some devastation. But you kept thinking ‘there’s a chance, there’s a chance.’ Then you started going ‘I don’t know if there is a chance. I guess we’ll figure it out Game 5.’ Then they just started doing what they’ve been doing, just chipping away. And then San Antonio was missing shots… And then that last five, six minutes you started to believe.”

Adam Sandler, by the sound of it, is still trying to make sense of what he witnessed on Wednesday night. OG Anunoby sent much of the NBA Finals-viewing public into a haze after scoring the game-winning bucket on a tip-in with 1.2 seconds left on the clock. If the Knicks can close out the Spurs and claim their first championship since 1973, that bonkers play will be immortalized as one of the most iconic moments in modern sports history.

Sandler is already willing to give Anunoby a role in one of his movies following his triumphant 33-point performance. “Whatever OG needs, he’s got,” the “Happy Gilmore” star said. “He’s gonna be tipping in all my jokes. ‘I got this Sandman. I know that joke was a complete miss, let me get it for you.'”

New York hopes that its A-list fan base will continue to bring authentic enthusiasm for the remainder of the series. Game 5 is Saturday night in San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center.
