Kawhi Leonard trade gets Chris Bosh review, with Aspiration twist

The Toronto Raptors pulled off one of the biggest moves of the offseason when they agreed to a trade with the LA Clippers to bring back former franchise star Kawhi Leonard. However, the trade was temporarily put on hold from the Raptors’ side of things this week when the NBA announced they would assume any punishment brought down following the league’s investigation into Leonard’s potential involvement with Aspiration.

For former Raptors’ star Chris Bosh, the holdup on the Kawhi Leonard trade is especially tough for the players involved, particularly the ones who were supposed to be headed to the Clippers.

“It’s a real tough situation because there are players in this trade, it’s tough to get traded by a team and then saying, ‘hold on, you’re not traded yet.’” Bosh said. “Will this have implications on the package that the Clippers can receive and the implications on Kawhi Leonard’s contract and his dealings moving forward.”

Bosh went on to say that he was happy for Raptors fans to have Leonard back in the picture as the team tries to get back to contending in the Eastern Conference.

In the original agreement, the Raptors were sending Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick, along with multiple picks, to the Clippers in exchange for Leonard.

The NBA has not issued a potential timeline as far as when they expect to make a ruling on their investigation regarding Leonard and the Clippers. At the heart of the controversy is accusations made by the company Aspiration that Leonard had agreed to an endorsement deal with the company with the intention to circumvent the salary cap, with the Clippers’ knowledge. The Clippers and Leonard have since denied any wrongdoing.
