Kansas City Chiefs’ new $3bn stadium site to be confirmed ahead of fast-approaching deadline
The Kansas City Chiefs are moving out of Missouri, but the exact location of their new home is still to be decided.
After spending 53 years at Arrowhead Stadium, the storied NFL franchise announced in December that their future belongs across state lines in Kansas.

The team plans to build a state-of-the-art, $3 billion domed stadium in time for the 2031 season.
Owner Clark Hunt’s relocation announcement came shortly after a council of Kansas lawmakers voted unanimously to allow for sales tax and revenue (STAR) bonds to be issued to cover up to 70% of the cost of the stadium and accompanying mixed-use district.
“This will give Chiefs Kingdom a state-of-the-art facility for multiple generations, a building that can last for at least 50 or 60 years,” Hunt said, announcing the move.
“We believe it’s the best thing for the region. It will give Kansas City the opportunity to bid on events that we can’t host right now, like the Super Bowl, the College Football Playoff and NCAA Final Fours.”
Where will the new Chiefs stadium be built?
The Chiefs will build their new stadium in Wyandotte County, but no specific site has been announced as yet.
It could, though, be revealed as early as next week.
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) has confirmed a public hearing on the Chiefs project will be held in the near future.
While the official date has not been set, the public hearing must come before the UG Commission votes to approve allowing incremental sales tax growth in the stadium and surrounding district to be used to help pay off STAR bonds.
The commission must vote on that by February 20, and FOX4 reports the proposed stadium site is expected to be disclosed that same night.
Negotiations are under way to secure a final location.

The Chiefs are said to be interested in having the stadium built in Kansas City, Kansas, close to the Kansas Speedway.
While the site is yet to be officially confirmed, two designers are set to battle for the lucrative stadium contract.
Who will design the new Chiefs stadium?
The team announced this week that two well-known regional architectural design firms — Manica and Populous — have advanced to the final stage of the ‘competitive design process’ for the new venue.
“We’re thrilled to take this next step in our new stadium journey and announce the two finalists in our search for lead designer,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said.
“The Kansas City region is the central hub of global sports and entertainment venue architecture and design, so we didn’t need to go far to identify the top options to explore final concepts for the future home of Chiefs Kingdom.”
Both firms have extensive experience in building stadiums.

Notable Manica projects include the under-construction New Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Oklahoma City’s new NBA arena, Chase Center in San Francisco and Birmingham City’s new soccer stadium.
Populous projects include the Buffalo Bills’ New Highmark Stadium, Wrexham AFC’s new Kop stand and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
The design firm announcement was the first of many expected to come from the Chiefs throughout the stadium process.
It marked the first significant update since the stadium agreement was announced on December 22.
