Juventus vs Roma predictions and betting tips – Fifth vs fourth in Serie A

There is not much separating a handful of teams at the top of Serie A. Both Juventus and Roma are outside the top three at present, yet neither can be ruled out of the title race.

A victory here would be massive for either team, especially with other sides absent for the Supercoppa Italiana. Who will triumph at the Allianz Stadium when Juventus host Roma?

Juventus vs Roma predictions

Between 2011/12 and 2019/20, Juventus were crowned Italian champions nine times out of nine. Not even Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain could match that record in their respective leagues.

But whereas Bayern and PSG have continued to dominate the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 respectively, Juventus have had minimal success in Italy’s top tier since the turn of the decade.

The Bianconeri have not even finished in the top two in the last five campaigns. Their best achievement in that time was a solitary third-place finish.

Inter (twice), Napoli (twice) and Milan have won the scudetto in the last half-decade, with Serie A becoming arguably the most competitive of Europe’s top five leagues, at least at the top.

That certainly appears to be the case this term. Only nine points separate Inter in top spot to Como in seventh. Meanwhile there is a mere three-point gap from Inter to fourth-placed Roma as Christmas approaches.

Juventus, seven points shy of the summit of the standings, are a little further behind in fifth, but they cannot be ruled out of the title race just yet. A win this weekend would keep them in the conversation, at least for now.

It has not been entirely smooth sailing for Juve up to now. Igor Tudor, appointed as their manager in March, only lasted until October. He was dismissed after a five-game winless streak bumped Juventus down to seventh.

The Turin-based outfit hired Luciano Spalletti a few days later. He has now been at the helm for around seven weeks, and it is fair to say results have been mixed so far.

Spalletti has won three of his six league games in charge, with two draws and one defeat. If Juventus want to challenge for the title, they could do with stringing a few victories together.

Roma will give as good as they have got on Saturday. With the top three – Inter, Milan and Napoli – absent to compete at the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia, Roma will move level on points with Inter in top spot if they beat Juventus.

The Giallorossi have lost two of their last three matches, going down to Napoli and Cagliari. They got back on track with a 1-0 triumph over Como last time out, but a trip to the Allianz Stadium is never easy. This promises to be a fascinating encounter.

Juventus vs Roma betting tips

Juventus and Roma are ready to butt heads in a Serie A six-pointer on Saturday.

Juventus to eke out win

Roma have not drawn a single match this season. With 10 wins and five draws to their name, it tends to be either boom or bust for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men.

On this occasion, we predict bust. Roma have gone off the boil a little of late, as demonstrated by those losses to Napoli and Cagliari.

Scoring goals continues to be an issue for Gasperini’s team, and that will be a problem against a Juventus side which knows this is a must-win.

With home advantage behind them, Spalletti can guide the Bianconeri to an important victory over his former club.

Goals will be few

Gasperini is known as an attack-minded coach, but Roma’s matches have tended to be low-scoring this season.

There has been an average of just 1.6 goals in their Serie A contests, which is easily the lowest figure in the division. Indeed, this bet has paid out in no fewer than 12 of their 15 league fixtures.

Juventus will not find it easy to break down a backline which has shipped a league-low eight goals.

This looks set to be an engaging encounter in Turin, but the evidence suggests it is unlikely to be a goal-laden one.

Yildiz to make difference

Juventus have shared the goals around this season. They have had 15 different scorers in all competitions, with Kenan Yildiz and Dusan Vlahovic joint-top of the list with six each.

Yildiz has come to the fore since Spalletti’s arrival, notching three goals in his last three Serie A appearances.

The Turkey international looks right at home as one of Juventus’s two No.10s behind the striker Jonathan David.

Roma’s backline does not give much away, but Yildiz has the creativity and nous to make an impact in this match.
