Jude Bellingham leaves pitch in tears for Real Madrid in major England World Cup injury fears

Jude Bellingham was overcome with emotion after appearing to pick up a hamstring injury in action for Real Madrid.

The midfielder was running onto a ball during the first ten minutes of their LaLiga clash at home to Rayo Vallecano when he pulled up.

Bellingham could be seen holding the back of his left leg and then sat on the turf in visible pain.

As he made his way off the pitch at the Bernabeu, he appeared to be in tears whilst covering his face with his shirt.

And although he was able to walk to the Madrid dressing room, he could be set for a lengthy period on the sidelines.

Bellingham battle for World Cup spot

Bellingham will hope that the injury does not affect the rest of his season as he eyes a spot in the England squad for the World Cup.

The 22-year-old is expected to be on the plane to the United States, Canada and Mexico once Thomas Tuchel announces his team.

He would make his fourth consecutive appearance at a major tournament for the Three Lions should he go.

Reacting to the injury on commentary for talkSPORT, Scott Minto said: “The fact that he’s in tears is not good.

“It’s one thing to have a little bit of a tweak in your hammy and you have to go off, even if it’s four to six weeks.

“But the way he came off, the way he’s feeling it almost sounds like it was a bit of a ping in his hamstring.

“Nowadays, you could be out for up to a year.

“So I do hope he’s going to be okay. With the World Cup that’d be a massive blow for England because I think he’s our best player.”

Bellingham made his 28th appearance in all competitions for Madrid this season on Sunday afternoon.

With six goals and four assists, he has continued to show his quality in attacking midfield for the one of the world’s biggest clubs.

However, his international minutes have been limited throughout the campaign.

A shoulder injury kept him out of the break in September before being omitted from the following squad a month later.

Bellingham returned to England duty in November for their final two World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.

He could be absent from the next international break in March for their friendlies against Uruguay and Japan with his injury though.

Madrid and England will have to wait and see how long he will spend off the pitch to recover.
