12.20 TDJ Williams Waste Limited Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Class 2) 2m
Lau And Shaz sprung an upset on debut for this yard beating Charisma Cat at Wincanton and must be respected but GETAWHISKY looks the one to beat for Dan and Harry Skelton.
The latter fell at Ascot when last seen but she looked to be travelling best on that occasion and the form has substance too. If she jumps better she should be the one to be on.
Of the rest Anariza impressed justifying strong support at Wetherby but she will need to improve again to win this as it is a much stronger race. Hard to see anything at bigger prices landing a blow.
Bet on GETAWHISKY to win at 2/1 with bet365
12.50 Royal Windsor Horse Show Cup Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 2m4f
Scorpio Rising is clearly promising and he will take a bit of beating but I can’t help but feel MALDINI MILANO is a great each way bet against.
This 6yo has been a work in progress but things clicked at Plumpton when last seen and he won well with something up his sleeve. Put away since with this the target he could be a horse to keep on side and at a nice price as well.
Harry Lowes looked an above average sort winning on hurdles debut at Exeter but looked a bit clumsy when beaten at Market Rasen and will need to bounce back to get involved. Obviously it is still early days though.
Bet on MALDINI MILANO each way at 11/2 with Paddy Power
1.20 LSL Racing Auctions Hampton Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (Class 1) 3m60y
- 9 of the last 12 winners were aged 7
- 5 of the last 12 winners were favourites or joint favourites
- 10 of the last 12 winners won on their last run before
- 11 of the last 12 winners were rated 137 or higher
A small but select field for the Hampton Novices’ Chase and I’m keen on WADE OUT backing up that Cheltenham performance. He will need to jump better than he did that day but he is likely to have schooled plenty since and is open to further improvement over fences.
His form has been franked with the runner-up One Big Bang winning readily at Southwell and the third Isaac Des Obeaux winning at Exeter. He has lots more to come and should have a great chance.
Salver was mightily impressive beating Doyen Quest at Sandown but the race rather fell in his lap and then he was beaten at Kempton. He is still a very useful type and I do expect him to give the selection most to think about.
Moon Rocket won well at Doncaster and then looked a bit unlucky last time but the form has been knocked since which is a bit of a worry.
Bet on WADE OUT to win at 4/1 with Spreadex
1.50 Fitzdares Extra Places Every Day Great Park Handicap Chase (Class 2) 2m37y
There are plenty in with a chance here but MIGHTY BANDIT does somewhat leap off the page. He bumped into Mambonumberfive at Newbury before beating Highlands Legacy last month.
That is the best form on offer and I think he’ll take a lot of beating here with James Bowen taking over brother Sean in the saddle.
Highlands Legacy has similar form lines and continues to run well so I don’t expect him to be far away either.
Mirabad beat Joyeuse at Exeter and then was third behind Mambonumberfive and Hansard at Kempton so on that form is another one who should get involved here.
Bet on MIGHTY BANDIT to win at 7/2 with Paddy Power
2.25 Weatherbys Racing Bank Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 3m
Nab Wood is a tricky sort but plenty talented and if this pans out favourably again he will be a big player but at the prices TRANQUIL SEA could be worth chancing.
I thought he was given a bit of a quiet ride at Cheltenham last time and before that bumped into the progressive C’est Different. He could be well handicapped off a mark of just 123 with Harry Atkins claiming 7lb and I think he’ll be bang there.
Royal Rambler was beaten less than a length at Chepstow and if building on that again could emerge as the danger. Lud’or was impressive at Bangor and then ran well behind French Ship at Newbury so is another one expected to get involved.
Bet on TRANQUIL SEA each way at 7/1 with BetVictor
3.00 Fitzdares Fleur De Lys Chase (Class 2) 2m6f50y
I know he is an 11yo now but PROTEKTORAT won this last year by 23 lengths and if he gets into that sort of rhythm again 12 months on then he could still prove difficult to beat.
He has been an unbelievable horse for connections and this is very much his Gold Cup again. The yard are flying and he deserves to be favourite.
Matata impressed back up in trip to win at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day and if in that form over a longer trip here could be dangerous but there certainly won’t be any hiding places. Handstands has rather lost his way but if rediscovering his best form could be the main threat to the veteran.
Bet on PROTEKTORAT to win at 8/11 with Sky Bet
3.35 Fitzdares Personal Betting Service Stayers Handicap Chase (Class 3) 3m4f162y
This is easily the toughest race of the day but I have been with SPECIAL JOHN the last twice and see no reason to oppose him here.
He somewhat scrambled home at Exeter but that form has been franked and then he followed up convincingly at Wincanton last month jumping smartly throughout. He can take another step forward and is clearly a progressive individual.
De Legislator was denied the hat-trick at Kelso but still ran well in defeat and is likely to give his running again here.
Rockinastorm is back to his last winning mark and is another one I can see being suited by this big field so might be worth a little saver especially at the prices with the amount of places on offer.
Bet on SPECIAL JOHN each way at 11/2 with Betfred
4.05 Dave Marley RIP You Legend Open NH Flat Race (Class 2) 2m
I rarely have a strong opinion on bumpers but I have been really impressed with BASS HUNTER and I do expect him to complete the hat-trick here.
He was well backed to make a winning start under Rules at Newbury and then followed up at Ascot again strong in the betting. He has more to come yet and could win this before being sent over hurdles as he is clearly a nice prospect.
Tally Ho Back has a length to find with the selection but is going the right way and should make a race of it again. Gary Moore has Ti’mamzel who looked good winning on debut and is another one who could have a say in the outcome here.
Bet on BASS HUNTER to win at 7/2 with bet365
My top tip for Berkshire Winter Million racing at Windsor
It is a tricky days racing in the main but there does seem to be quite a bit of value about so I’ve backed WADE OUT to follow up that Cheltenham performance in the novice chase and doubled him up with MIGHTY BANDIT to confirm form over Highlands Legacy and win the handicap chase.
Bet an Each Way Double on WADE OUT and MIGHTY BANDIT at 22/1 with bet365
