Jesse Lingard suffers Premier League snub, Wrexham miss out on deal and major change to January window in pipeline
Another transfer window has come and gone and what a dramatic last day it was.
It was especially dramatic for Jean-Philippe Mateta and Dwight McNeil who saw their hopes of deadline day moves dashed.

Here we have all the fallout, including West Ham rejecting a Jesse Lingard return, why Premier League clubs are pushing for a two-week window next year and Fulham’s summer plan to sign PSV Eindhoven frontman Ricardo Pepi.
No luck for Lingard
West Ham were among the Premier League clubs who rejected the chance to re-sign Jesse Lingard in the final days of the transfer window.
Lingard had a golden 16-game spell on loan at the London Stadium in 2021, scoring nine goals and becoming a fans’ favourite.
talkSPORT has been told Lingard was keen to return to the Hammers, but manager Nuno Espirito Santo preferred to push ahead with a move for former Wolves winger Adama Traore.
The 33-year-old is a free agent after spending the past two years playing for South Korean side FC Seoul.
It now looks likely that the former Manchester United and England ace will join another overseas club.
Early close on the cards?
Premier League teams are ready to push for a shorter January transfer window next year, talkSPORT understands.
There is a growing feeling in boardrooms around the country that slashing the traditional four-week window in half would reduce the disruption for managers at an already-congested time of the season.
The risk would be that other major leagues would not fall in line, leaving clubs vulnerable to having their players poached and being unable to replace them.
However, senior figures at some of England’s top sides believe that as the Premier League is the financial powerbroker in any transfer window this threat is minimal.
Any proposed change in the window would have to be voted on at the league’s shareholders’ meeting and would need at least 14 votes in favour.

Summer Pep-i talk
Fulham plan to revive their interest in PSV Eindhoven striker Ricardo Pepi in the summer.
The Cottagers were close to agreeing a deal with PSV worth in excess of £30million, but the Dutch giants pulled the plug in the final hours of the window after failing to land a suitable replacement.
Sources in the Netherlands claimed Fulham were even prepared to buy Pepi and loan him back for the rest of the season to secure the USA international.
Craven Cottagers insiders told talkSPORT they will attempt to revive the move at the end of the season.
Red Dragons denied
Big-spending Wrexham failed with a transfer deadline move for Republic of Ireland international Festy Ebosele.
The ex-Derby youngster had agreed a loan move to the ambitious Championship club from Turkish side Basaksehir in a deal brokered by ex-Reading and Ireland star Stephen Hunt.

Phil Parkinson saw the versatile full-back as being able to add an extra dimension to Wrexham’s push for a play-off place.
However, Wrexham abandoned their pursuit of 13-cap Ireland international Ebosele after Basaksehir decided they would only sanction a permanent deal at the 11th hour.
