Jeremy Swayman breaks silence on yelling at Bruins bench during Game 4 blowout

The Boston Bruins’ performance in Game 4 against the Buffalo Sabres was as ugly as it gets. The team allowed four goals in the first period, exiting the TD Garden ice to a cascade of boos after the first 20 minutes. After giving up two more goals, starting goaltender Jeremy Swayman started yelling down the bench toward his Bruins teammates, something that head coach Marco Sturm saw no problem with, given the effort.

Swayman has kept his team in every game through the first four, but his teammates haven’t done much to pick him up, and they now sit in a 3-1 series hole. It’s going to take a lot of self-reflection and pride from the Bruins to win three straight and get past the Sabres, which is what Swayman hoped to inspire, according to Conor Ryan via X, formerly Twitter.

“We have an extremely high competitive group. We all have a standard that we all carry ourselves to, and it wasn’t met. So that was just emotion,” Swayman told reporters. “It’s moved on now, and we have a job to do going into Buffalo.”

Every move Swayman makes has been under the microscope in Boston since his contract holdout before the 2024-25 season. Bruins fans critique every goal that goes past him, and he doesn’t have a long leash in their eyes. While most people would’ve had the same reaction as Swayman to getting hung out to dry by his teammates, it caused a stir in Boston with questions about whether he is a team player.
