Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua punch stats speak volumes about absurd fight

Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua was a difficult watch, but in the end, the fans got what they flocked to Miami to see.

After multiple rounds of circling and clinging on for dear life, Paul was eventually walked down and knocked out by Joshua in the sixth.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer hit the deck four times en route to the eventual stoppage, which came courtesy of a dynamite right hand.

While Paul was able to land a couple of right hands and the odd jab to the body, he was significantly outgunned by the Watford powerhouse.

In total, Paul threw 56 punches, with only 16 finding the intended target.

That means Paul’s punch accuracy came in at just 29 per cent.

Joshua, on the other hand, threw 146 punches and landed 48 of them – a mere 33 per cent.

What is next for Anthony Joshua?

Regardless, it was enough to get the job done.

And while it certainly wasn’t pretty, mainly due to Paul’s unwillingness to engage, Joshua kept his hopes of an all-British showdown with Tyson Fury alive in victory.

The plan is now for Joshua to return to the ring in February in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Former Glory Kickboxing world champion Rico Verhoeven is said to be in the mix, although Eddie Hearn confirmed at the press conference that an opponent hasn’t been finalised just yet.

Providing everything goes to plan, Joshua will then box Fury sometime in the second half of the year.

Talking up a fight with his fierce rival in the immediate aftermath, Joshua said: “If Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, and he wants to put down his Twitter fingers and put on some gloves.

“Come and fight one of the realest fighters out there that will take on any challenge, step into the ring with me next if you’re a real bad boy.

“Don’t do all that talking, ‘AJ this, AJ that’. Let’s see you in the ring and talk with your fists.”

Jake Paul suffers suspected broken jaw

While Joshua is expected to have a quick turnaround, Paul could be sidelined for a significant stretch after being rushed to hospital with a suspected broken jaw.

Speaking post-fight, the YouTuber-turned-boxer said: “I think my jaw is broken, by the way.

“It’s definitely broke. But that was a nice little a** whopping from one of the best to ever do it.

“I love this s***, but I’m going to come back and get a championship belt at some time.

“I’m feeling good, that was fun. I love this sport.

“I gave it my all. It’s f***ing crazy. I had a blast.

“I got my a** beat, but that’s what this sport is about. I’m going to come back and keep on winning.”
