IPL: 3 records held by RCB that may never be broken
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are one of the most storied franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With one of the most frantic and passionate fanbases, RCB finally lifted their first crown in the IPL after an 18-season-long wait.
In their years, RCB have seen some mercurial players wear the franchise’s colours, contributing to the team’s legacy at various junctures. Their star-studded lineups over the years have left their imprints on the team as records, which stand out as milestones in this team’s journey.
Here are 3 RCB records in IPL history that may never be broken
3. Highest match aggregate
Despite not getting over the line on the day, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, along with the Sunrisers Hyderabad set the record for the most runs scored in a match. Chasing a mammoth 288, courtesy of a brilliant century from Travis Head, RCB got themselves underway with a strong opening stand between Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis.
Losing a few wickets along the way dented their momentum, but a late 83 off just 35 balls from Dinesh Karthik took them to 262/7 at the end. The game finished with a record total of 549 runs scored between both teams, a record which will be tough to get past.
2. Most 10-wicket wins in IPL history
Royal Challengers Bengaluru also hold the record for the most 10-wicket wins in the history of the IPL. Their last one coming in 2021, they have four of these brilliant chases to their name. The first three of them came in 2010, 2015 and 2018, respectively, against the Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab. On these three occasions they chased below-100 totals.
The fourth one, coming in 2021, saw them chasing 178 against the Rajasthan Royals. Devdutt Padikkal scored a brilliant unbeaten century in a strong season for the team from Bengaluru.
1. Highest Partnership in IPL History
RCB fans were in for a treat in 2016 when Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers launched a brutal assault on the Gujarat Lions (now discontinued). Coming in the fourth over after the cheap dismissal of Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, along with Virat Kohli, put on 229 runs for the second wicket, with both players scoring centuries.
Kohli finished with 109, off just 55 balls, his third century of the season. De Villiers finished unbeaten on 129 off just 55 balls. This was the first occasion in the IPL when two batters from the same team have scored centuries, and has only been replicated once other than this time.
