In the T20 format, the role of the opening pair is extremely important. The first six overs of the powerplay often set the tone for the entire innings, and a strong start can provide momentum for the middle order to capitalise on.

Over the years, several successful IPL teams have relied heavily on their opening combinations to dominate opponents early in the innings. With explosive hitters and technically sound batters occupying the top order, IPL 2026 promises several exciting opening partnerships. Some pairs are already well-established, while others are new combinations that could surprise fans.
