Hundreds of Benfica ultras confront Jose Mourinho and Nicolas Otamendi in furious protest

A group of Benfica ultras stormed the club’s training centre on Saturday morning to protest against recent results.

Around 200 supporters arrived at the team’s base in Seixal ahead of this weekend’s clash with Estrela Amadora.

The protest comes as a response to Benfica’s poor form, with fans demanding to speak to club officials.

They were able to speak to manager Jose Mourinho, defender Nicolas Otamendi and technical director Simao Sabrosa.

According to local outlet Correio da Manha, four ultras were allowed to enter the building at first.

However, they demanded that the entire group be permitted to join them.

Police were present at the training centre, with the ultras allowed to protest peacefully before leaving after an hour.

Details of their conversation with Mourinho, Otamendi and Simao are unknown.

Benfica currently sit third in the Portuguese top flight – ten points adrift of league leaders Porto.

However, the 38-time champions are yet to lose in the league this season, winning 12 of their 18 matches.

Mourinho will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record at home to Estrela Amadora on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, Benfica were beaten 2-0 by Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The result leaves them 29th in the league phase standings ahead of their final match against Real Madrid this week.

Benfica must win to have any chance of reaching the knockout stages.

It would be the first time in eight years that the club have missed out on European knockout football completely during a campaign.

Mourinho has also seen his side exit both the Portuguese Cup and League Cup this month.

As a result, Benfica are on course to finish a season without winning a trophy for the first time since 2022.

The club appointed Mourinho for a second time in September on a two-year deal having left Fenerbahce three weeks prior.

His previous spell at the club back in 2000 lasted just three months.

Meanwhile, former winger Simao was appointed as technical director in the summer.
