HBCU hires former NFL standout as an ambassador
An HBCU is adding an NFL talent to its program. Per a report by HBCU Gameday, Allen University has appointed former NFL standout Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie as an athletic ambassador.
In the role, Rodgers-Cromartie will help bring success in several areas for the athletics department, including community engagement, engaging with alumni, bringing national visibility to Allen University’s football program, and mentorship of student-athletes.
Allen University Athletic Director Stanley Cromartie spoke about Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie joining the program, in a quote obtained by HBCU Gameday.
“Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie represents the very best of athletic achievement, leadership, and professionalism. We are honored to welcome him to the Allen University family as our Athletics Ambassador. His experience, passion, and dedication to uplifting HBCU athletics will have a tremendous impact on our student-athletes and our institution.”
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie also spoke warmly about receiving the position and the opportunity to help a new generation in a quote obtained by HBCU Gameday.
“I am honored to join Allen University as Athletics Ambassador. HBCUs continue to play a vital role in shaping opportunities for young people, and I look forward to supporting the student-athletes, staff, and university community in every way possible.”
In 2023, Rodgers-Cromartie graduated from Tennessee State University, receiving his degree in interdisciplinary studies from the College of Liberal Arts. He attended Tennessee State University from 2004 to 2007, and then ultimately received his shot in the NFL. He was selected with the 16th overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2008 NFL draft.
He played for several teams in the NFL but had standout years in 2009 and 2019, being named as an NFL All-Pro. He finished his career amassing 455 tackles, 30 interceptions, 7 forced fumbles and 7 defensive touchdowns.
