‘Had a meeting’ – Daniel Dubois reveals real reason why he turned back to trainer in surprise reunion
Daniel Dubois insist his decision to leave Don Charles was ‘too rash’ and it made sense for him to rejoin his former trainer.
Dubois had linked up with trainer Charles who was in his corner for three consecutive victories which steered him to clinching his first world title.

‘Dynamite’ was then beaten in a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, where he was denied a chance at becoming undisputed heavyweight champion last July.
Immediately after the bout, Dubois decided to part ways with Charles in a shock move that attracted criticism given the fruitful nature of their partnership.
He announced he would link up with trainer Tony Sims among other changes to his team, but just two months later, he has confirmed he will return back to Charles.
Dubois released a statement on social media, but has since explained to talkSPORT in more depth why he decided to make a sudden U-turn.
He told Jim White: “We sat down and had a family meeting, and we decided to do that U-turn because I had the best nights with Don.
“He knows me as a person, it just makes sense. I think it was everyone needed to go away and think about things.
“It was a quick and rash decision, but I’m glad we are back together and he is the right heavyweight trainer for me.”
Dubois has since been working out at the Matchroom Boxing gym in Essex with Sims to try and breathe new life into his preparations.
But the pair will split after a short stint, and when asked if they weren’t a good match, Dubois simply believes Charles is the better choice.
He continued: “Yeah that’s about right [didn’t gel with Sims].

“I feel like the person and character I am, Don is the right guy for me, he will help me get back to the glory days.”
When will Dubois now return to the ring?
After announcing his reunion with Charles, the pair will look to be all systems go for a big return in 2026.
Several return fights have been linked for Dubois including a title shot against Fabio Wardley, but the pair are unlikely to be matched for now.
It has been revealed that he instead in talks to face Chinese giant Zhilei Zhang, with the bout being targeted for April.
On his return, Dubois added to talkSPORT: “Hopefully soon, in a couple of months now.
“They have been talking about a fight in April, I have been chomping at the bit.

“We are working on it, I will be going into camp soon, so it will be all systems go.”
Dubois is just 28-years-old and still has a bright future ahead of him.
His partnership with Charles arguably saw him go through the richest vein of form in his career.
And big clashes with a series of other British top talent remain, with plenty of years left at the top.
